May Art Challenge Options

This month's challenge was inspired by the recent announcement of this years Botcon Exclusives. Apparently, what we are going to get this year are representations of the pre-Beast Wars Maximals. I thought this was an awesome idea. We know from past exclusives that there may some remolding/retooling to help the representations along. The 'bots pre-earth forms have long been a source of fascination for many.
What we are gonna do this month is let our imaginations run wild. The rules are simple. Take any of the original beast wars' crews (Maximal or Predacon) and show their pre-earth forms using only existing transformer molds. They can be recolored and remolded or just recolored. If you choose not to color your work, please use some redesinging of the mold to let us know for sure who it is supposed to be. We know that at least some heads will likely be remolded on the exclusives.
This contest is also a good one because it can encompass all forms of tf art. Got a 3-d render of hot shot that would make a great Cheetor? Let's see it. Got some RID jets that would make a good Terrorsaur? Then Kitbash'em. Or, just plain old 2-d art will fill the bill here as well.

As always, break out the pencils( or dremels or macs or whatever) and let's get started.! Maybe, we might even be able to pick better chioces than the molds that actually get used (IMG:http://www.allspark.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif)

It can be any non-beast mold. it does not have to be from any particular series, just no beast forms.

I know this is a contest and a certain degree of originality/creativity is required, but what troubles me is that the Beast Wars occur after the events of G1. G1 was rife with animalformers, and if memory serves me correctly, many were fuel-efficient (example: the Dinobot Snarl used a photovoltaic battery system... and, yes... I know Cybertron no longers orbits any star, it was only one example.). It would seem to me that during an era where greater emphasis is placed on energy conservation (hence the smaller BW forms), at least some of the more fuel-efficient animal forms would perservere through the evolutionary process responsible in creating the Maximals/Predacon factions from their Autobot/Decepticon forbears (the name Predacon would almost seem to favor that idea... seeing as it was originally the faction name for an animal-based combiner group). But apparently, I digress.

So the rules are--if I understand correctly--as such: Modify an existing 'vehicle' based Transformer into a popular BW character. Any artform is acceptable. Is that correct?

Slightly more restrictive, HMB3. You need to use one that has a toy out ("existing mold"), and make only minor changes to the mold (head swap is good, maybe some tiny other details) and otherwise evoke the character using just plastic colors and paint apps. I expect to see a LOT of digibashes in this one.

Now, in cases where the toy and the cartoon models differed significantly (i.e. G1 Ironhide), I'd say it'd be in the spirit of the contest to base it on the toy.

It never is. Although votes are for entries, not for people, so if you want to come out on top, you run the risk of splitting your votes if you submit multiple entries.

That's usually not an issue though, since these challenges are all about having fun, rather than winning.

i can only assume that fanbots are unacceptable, but any BW like Razorbeast or Polar Claw are up fro grabs.

Yeah, but any of the non-starting 6 Predacons should be done as Maximals, really

What if you've already created something like this, therefore not eligible to enter, and someone else does damn near the exact same thing only it's new to them and therefore within the rules? Would it still be viable?
I ask this because of my Optimus Primal made from Crumplezone that Spark inspired a while back.

Which Botcon will undoubtedly use. Every one loves stealing your ideas! It's like pin the tail on the kitty, but in reverse!
