Walmart's got several old tokusatsu shows on $7.50 DVD sets mixed in with their superhero display. Ultraman complete season 1, Iron King complete series, and Super Robot Red Baron complete series.

Is it the live-action or anime version of Red Baron?

Both Univision and Telemundo took turns broadcasting the Spanish-language dub of the anime (which, in turn, appeared to have been based on an English dub since all the names in the end credits were in English), but for various reasons I never actually got to see the final episode of either broadcast.

Curse my unhealthy addiction to Mechanized goodness....

While Power Rangers fans still reel at the utter shock of that franchise's sudden apparent escape from demise at the hands of its long-absent parent company, Super Sentai proceeds merrily along. Goseiger has been on the air for about 14 episodes at the time of this writing, so its time for some new toy releases!

In order to aid them in their mission to protect humanity from the Warstar, the Goseigers receive new "Headers" (similar to their personal headers which I discussed in GoseiGreat's review) to upgrade their powers.

Seaic Brothers!

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/seaclan.jpg)

GoseiBlue is the first one to receive new Headers, a set of three "Brothers" powered by the Seaic Clan. From left to right- Manta Ray, Saw-shark & Hammerhead styled machines. Each one has only minor play value in its own right, generally centered around a very simple gimmick (Manta's wings fold up, Saw-shark's blades spin-that sort of thing).

The Seaic Brothers combine with GoseiGreat to form...

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/seagg.jpg)

PIRATE FISH-HAT MEGAZORD! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) This is why I love Super Sentai; what an awesomely hilarious design!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-ironhide.gif)

Landic Brothers!

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/landclan.jpg)

The Gosei Siblings (Black & Yellow) are next to be awarded upgrades. This team consists of Tyrannosaurus, Kuwagata (Beetle) and Rhino. Again, the gimmicks for these guys remain simple- Beetle's horns open & close, Rhino's drill-nose spins, etc.

The team combines to form-

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/landgg.jpg)

Landic GoseiGreat! His is the KICK WHICH WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS!!!

...sorry. Anyway, this one isn't quite as impressive (not that it really could've topped Pirate FishHat Mode) but is still effective.

Skyic Brothers!

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/skyclan.jpg)

GoseiPink is (surprisingly) the one who receives her tribe's associated power-up. The last trio of Brothers- Crow, Hawk & Pteranodon- follows the same pattern established by the previous sets. Crow & Ptera both have cannons hidden in their beaks, and Hawk can split into three sub-components in a decoy effect. Not bad.

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/skygg.jpg)

Their combination- Skyic GoseiGreat! This one's a more uniform design than the Landic combo but of course is still inferior to PFH.

Goseiger isn't really winning me over with its storytelling just yet but I really like these Mecha designs. True, it feels kinda odd to only be buying HEADS instead of actual Auxiliary Zords but the fact that they come in sets of 3 offsets that a bit.

What I love most about these designs is the versatility and the insane amount of combinations you can get from head-swapping. Case in point-

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/sgg.jpg)

I'm calling this "Super GoseiGreat," its my idea for how to best unite the three tribes.

Overall these Headers are STRONGLY recommended for most Mecha fans; if you liked GoseiGreat then you'll probably love these too. If not then you won't mind sitting out this line.

Any chance we could get some pictures of some of the headers attached to the individual mecha? Like Sawfish Header on GoseiShark or one of the Skyick headers on GoseiPhoenix?

Live action.

But I have a question myself... I picked up the Ultraman season one: part one at Target the other day for $5.
Anyone know the quality of that release compared to complete series found at Wal-Mart? I haven't opened it yet, so I can still return it if the complete series is better or at least equal

The Target 20-ep set is pretty bad. It kept slipping between language tracks at random.

As I understand it, that's because there's restored footage that doesn't have a dub track, as it wasn't in the show at the time the original dub was done.
I'd be watching it with subtitles most likely, so that doesn't really matter.

rikdom: Ah, okay. That makes sense.

BTW, the Target set smells like cheapo dollar store DVDs. You know that smell, the one that gives the impression that these DVDs were quite literally burned. Or at least a little melted.

Oh, I agree.
But it was only five bucks.

I did check some of the reviews on Amazon, but sometimes those are in the wrong place, especially when dealing with multiple releases of the same product. From what I gleaned, other than the audio bit, the two part release of season one was pretty decent. But I think there were a couple of full season sets, and I haven't actually seen that at wal-mart in person, so I don't know which it is.

I figured someone here probably was a big enough fan to own them all already, and could give a proper rundown

A good percentage of the fandom boycotted the Ultraman sets, since that was when Chaiyo still had international rights over Tsuburaya. Now that Tsuburaya once again has full claim over their property, I would love another go at North American DVDs. The remasters Bandai did for all the old Ultraman shows were superb looking.

I picked up the Red Baron set yesterday. Turns out it's subbed only, so it'll have to wait until I can actually pay full attention rather than being background watching.

I see that Goseiger is going the Toripter/Jetras route.

I really hope Saban is successful or we at least get some Goseiger toys from Bandai, because Gosei Great is one of my favorite Sentai designs in a very long time, but I'd rather have it for 20 bucks than a hundred.

Well, they've said they're going to start bringing over Japanese series again, right? Seems logical to assume we'll get the Shinkenger and Goseiger stuff somehow.

You do realize that it wouldn't be the same toy, right? Bandai USA would make their own version that had a dumbed-down design to get it under the $30 price point and make it adhere to the US' stricter safety laws, creating a toy that's practically a knock-off compared to the original.
