Folks:
Okay, this subject and subheading are way too full of possibly-intended innuendo. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) -------------------- ![]() Geocities is dead! R. I. P. I like it. I'm also curious as to what other interactions we could see w/ Movie Prime. "Today on Mythbusters: Is it really possible for a giant robot to be cured of his addiction to tearing off his enemies' faces?" -------------------- |

Prime seems more like a last minute addition then a scheduled part of the campaign. It's not even Peter Cullen, I don't think.

You know....
Next I expect to have Discover run a full fledged contest to have anyone with robotics knowledge to build the first functioning Transformer. And, make it a reality series. -------------------- Not Affiliated or to be confused with Project: Black Knife

Yeah, but I'd half expect part of the contest would be for a Transformer character....heh.

Optimus sure is out of place in that commercial. It's otherwise a bunch of Discovery's reality show stars singing things in situations relevant to their shows. Then there's footage of Optimus from the 2007 movie with a new voiceover. That just doesn't make sense at all.

PRime's clip blends in with the other clips a lot better than when they stuck the dude from Daily Planet into the middle of it.
so when are TFs going to get on How I Mad? -------------------- |

You know, without getting too holier-than-thou-up-my-ass-likes-the-smell-of-my-own-farts-hippie-douche-bitching, I'd always thought the point of this clip was to showcase the finest attributes of humans and things in the world. Everything from the natural world (lemur eyes) to some of our finest achievements (particle accelerator) and things most beautiful about our world in general (the arctic, the ocean at night, etc.). In terms of why Transformers was featured in there, I thought it was a snapshot of a great representation of pop culture media, which I think is a fine invention of humans in and of itself. Now, pop culture media, as shady as it might be in some aspects, does and has impacted our society greatly, and has changed how we approach the world. Now, one can say it has dulled our senses to the natural world true, but it can also be seen as a great arbiter (is that the correct word, "arbiter?"), in that it can and has brought people together who, by all rights, shouldn't be together. Simple example: how much would an average American have with an average person in, say, Laos? Probably not that much. But let's say both these people like, say, Michael Jackon. Boom, instant connection, from two people that most likely could not be more different.
I believe pop culture, do to its nature as widely distributed media for entertainment, can bring together the most unlikely individuals under a common umbrella of interest in a peaceful way that would never have anything in common to approach one another productively at ALL otherwise. Pop culture has linked us as a race across all cultures and civilizations. I mean, look at friggin the king of Jordan (or prime minister? I forget which, sorry (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif) ) loving Transformers! What can any of us average joe fanboys possibly have ANYTHING in common with Jordinian royalty, for cripe's sake! Nothing! But now, because of pop culture, in this case, Transformers, boom, instant connection. Dude may even set up an account on the Allspark, if he knew about us! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-waspy.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) With the ability to bring someone like me or you, as average a putz as one can get, to have a sense of familiarity, something in common, with someone who couldn't be more different: someone who owns and runs an entire friggin country? It's a very powerful thing, pop culture. It's a pinnacle of human achievement in this regard. Now despite dealings Discovery had with Hasbro simply as product placement for TFs blah blah blah, you can't but help but think about this kinda stuff, you know? And even then, for whatever reason it was done, either for the reasons stated above or for product placement, out of everything they still could have chosen anyway, they chose our humble little franchise, Transformers, to be featured. Coulda chose Voltron, or GI Joe or Barbie, hell, even Pokemon, but they chose ours. OURS, to represent the allusion to pop culture (if there was one). I cannot help but think that is 2 million kinds of AWESOME. Incredibly out of place.
Not only does it kill the impact of the commercial itself, but I also kinda wonder if it's a sign we might be going past the line of "too much licensing/merchandising" of the Transformer brand. |

I think it would have fit in better if Prime had gotten the line "I love Lemur eyes," instead.

Honestly I think Discover really already drove the "Boom de yada" song into the ground a while back.
See now when is somebody going to make one of these with bots singing about how great Cybertron is? Really, somebody ought to do it. -------------------- |

It would've been better to include Beachcomber, or Hound, or Jazz, or SkyByte. . .
Or maybe make a Bonecrusher version. "I hate the mountains. I hate the clear blue sky. I hate big bridges. I hate when Great Whites fly." -------------------- ![]() |
