Legends "Blue Steel" Sideswipe? Would it have killed them to make it a new character? The only thing more usless than a non-show repaint new character is a non-show repaint of SAME character. Call him Tracks or something.

You should get used to things being like they are. Although I too am tired already of same character repaints, it seems to be the in thing right now and has been since 2007. I didn't like seeing it in the Batman and Spiderman toylines and I don't even collect those - I used to think to myself some years ago when I saw them in stores how I hope Transformers never released multiple versions of the same character. I don't think its going to go away any time soon.

But we do get repaints that are different characters still. They could have easily called ROTF Sweve by the mold's original name of Sideswipe.

So sometimes characters get repainted into themselves, sometimes they're repainted into a new character. Thats about the size of it.

Hmm, Shadow Commander Megatron...that gives me hope that the figure actually is black, and the darkness isn't some illusion of photoshop. Well, a dark metallic gray would be cool, too. The image seems to suggest it could be either. I don't have that mold yet, largely because I frankly found the first color scheme more than a little bland, and if it's a toy that expensive, have to like it in all respects. I tend to wait quite some time before getting any toy above deluxe size. This is for budgetary reasons, but it behooves me, since I can see what the repaint is like. So I don't mind the same-character repaint...sometimes I'll want a character but won't like his original colors. Most of my Cyb toys with same-character repaints are the repainted versions, which I generally found better (More $ to give to paint apps with a repaint.)

I just like options, the more the better.

I think there are good reasons behind the "same character repaint" that Transformers is doing. To me, Hasbro is trying to spice up the decos on these toys to make them different, but most still need to be recognizable to kids and parents.
In the movie, Sideswipe isn't a red sports car, he is silver. To fans, a red Bumblebee is Cliffjumper, but kids know a REAL Bumblebee is yellow and black. The general feel I saw in 2008 was Nightwatch Prime didn't do as well as he could have because kids KNOW Prime is red and blue, not blue and white. And considering many of these movie characters are not that readily available (I haven't seen a Prime locally in months, same with a deluxe Sideswipe), getting them back on shelves is good marketing.

That is plausibly what the original intention may have been, but for availability of trademarks.

Good luck, dude. Hopefully you'll learn something good when they talk about the possible 2010 show.

I myself am fine with a Movie/Animated/Classics mix, but it can't last forever.

Honestly, I'm just happy for a blue Sidewsipe that *I* can call Tracks. Now if they'll just do it on the deluxe... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif)

Same-character redecoes aren't useless. They're plenty useful for kids who still want to find their favorite character from the movie on pegs, long after the original versions are gone.
