From Takara's TF website, translated by fans, comes an interview with the guy who made the Twins, The Fallen, Fire Convoy, Big Convoy, and BT Skids.

He also made the BW Neo Unicron prototype.

What does he mean in Mixmaster's section the "caterpillars seperate"?

OH, BTW, AWESOME interview. Seems like a very cool guy, and a hugging genius to engineer these toys the way he has. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-ironhide.gif)

He's the man behind some of the frustrating design choices such as the fact that the Fallen's entire foot tends to go flying off when I try to stand him up? Rabble Rabble.

On the other hand, he's got some awesome designs and seems to love his work, which is awesome. I share his confusion on things such as the constructiconrelationship to Devestator, but disagree that the movie even tried to clear up such things.

The caterpillers on Mixmaster seem fine to me.

I was just playing God of War.

Heh.

Anyway, cool interview.

The Fallen's not a shelformer. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-wildride.gif)

Neither is Sideways. Or, rather, he is, but a hugging awesome one. As is Mixmaster. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-silverbolt.gif)

Disagree about the mysteries, agree about the toys!

Good interview overall, I also wish we had more interviews and insight from the toy designers. The Hasbro guys are good about this, but when it comes down to it, they're not the ones doing most of the engineering. And it's great to hear about what they're thinking of when creating the specific characters.

Caterpillars are Japanese english for treads. I take it this interview was translated by someone who doesn't have a very firm grasp of the language...

So he's responsible for the shake hands combination? That's one of my favourite transformations (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif)

As for his closing comment- sorry, man. The movie actually cut most of its answers for more useless action scenes and actually removed any desire I had to buy the toys.

I'm finding that throughout the interview. I've never had the Mixmaster toy in my hand, but I would be surprised if it would help me see his level of complicity. I'd need to keep an eye on him for a while.

With the idea of caterpillars meaning treads, I originally figured they meant something like caterpillar tracks. But treads doesn't make any more sense to me. Do they mean the wheels were supposed to seperate?

As for the complexity, he kinda explodes into a million folding panels when you transform him.

OK... so the WHEELS are suppose to seperate. Well, that I don't care too much about if they left that little bit out; tis a very minor concern. But thanks for clearing that up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-ironhide.gif)

And yes, the exploding into a milliong folding panels is Awesome Incorporated in my book. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-silverbolt.gif)

Nothing against the guy, I haven't even looked closely at his translation or compared it to the original. Someone asked what the heck caterpillars meant, and in general caterpillars refer to the treads on tanks or construction vehicles. Pretty common word, hence my comment.

Compared with stuff like manga or press releases, interviews can be pretty challenging. Can't blame him for making the effort.
