Crazy idea, John Hancock your TF? Options

I have this idea I think is rather insane because a.) I don't know if it's ever been done or is approved of in a fan-based general consensus and b.) it will permanently warp a favorite TF.

I was thinking that for this Botcon, when I attend, I would want the celebs there to autograph a Transformer. No, not the package it's in, the ACTUAL Transformer. Like, physically write on the plastic.

I consider this because whatever piece or part the signature is on is considered the valuable part, right? Well, if you have the VAs sign the package, it's the package that's valuable. If ever you decide to open the toy, the actual figure becomes no more valuable than any other copy of it. That, and if you decide never to open it, well, you can never play with it either. Catch 22, of sorts.

So I was thinking, for example, of bringing my BW10 Megatron to have David Kaye scrawl his signature in permanent ink all down the side of it in dino mode, thus making my Megs one of the most valuable out there, because the figure itself was signed by the VA. Not its PACKAGE, but the figure itself, which is really what matters in the grand scheme of things, the ACTUAL TF FIGURE, you know?

I was also planning on snaggin a convention exclusive, say for example Banzai-tron, and have all the celebs I can get face time with to ALL scrawl their sig onto it, all up and down its hull in vehicle mode. Not only would it be a convention piece, it will be a PRICELESS momento.

It's considered bad form, though, to get something autographed for the sole purpose of selling it. "I don't want to see this on eBay!" isn't a colloquialism for the heck of it.

I said valuable in a sense that meant both sentimental but as well as monetary. Just the fact of owning something that literally could be sold for many MANY times its actual value is a good thought; I'm a collector. Don't we get off on the fact that we own high-worth things? Isn't the point to acquire the high-worth things? The higher the worth the more valuable in both senses? And the more valuable the longer and deeper we hold onto them? At least for me it is. I hold on tighter to the more valuable things, and muse about their monetary value, but never really follow through with selling them; that's the point of collecting.

Believe me, I know the value of sentiment. For example, all the BW toys my mother bought for me without my ever asking; I consider those my most valuable pieces and I would NEVER sell them.

At any rate, I was just musing aloud how much it could go for is all when the day comes that I do pass it on (on my grave, crowbar-pried from my cold, dead hands, that is). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif)

And permanent ink doesn't smudge too much (or much at all) actually, if it's just one layer, and so long as you let it dry.

Part of the hype for the Mayuko Iwasa custom Binaltech Meister was the fact that not only did she design the toy's color scheme she also autographed it.

So autographed TFs have been known in the fandom for a while.

Honestly I think a sealed autographed figure would be worth more than a loose autographed one. Cuz that's just how collectibles tend to roll. Sealed toys are more valuable, and it's likely no one's going to open an autographed one anyways.

Eh, some of us really don't collect for those reasons at all. I don't care about worth all that much. I love some of my cheapest minicons a lot more than some of the much pricier and semi rare ones.

I'm a collector because I like Transformers. It's really not a value game to me.

Nothing's wrong with getting figures autographed. I got my touched-up Swindle autographed by Wyatt- I have no plans to sell this sucker.

And you're the one with the Freudian slip, calling it a BUSINESS. Since when did I ever mention anything about this being a business? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-depth.gif) And never have I said anywhere that I had plans to sell anything, again, like AT ALL. I say "worth," and immediately, regardless of even trying to consider what I really meant, people automatically jump to WORTH=SELL=MONEY=CAPITALIST PIG. What we hate most are just reflections of aspects of ourselves that we just don't want to acknowledge. To me, sentiment translates to worth, which CAN translate to off-the-charts monetary worth, but not necessarily WILL. But I plan to horde all said worth to myself anyway and never let it go. Happy? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-primal.gif) Or, I can sell my stash one day, give others a chance to own'em, make a little dough on the side. In fact, at the end of the day, I can truly do whatever the hell I want with it; it's my stuff. So back off.

Anyway, I also think I'm going to try and get a Nexus Maximus and have that graffiti'ed on too. Special toy, special "decorations," even more special WORTH.
