2005, they can't get rid of them.

2006, sold all but 36, which were sold quickly online afterwards.

2007, sold out before BotCon.

2008, sold out even quicker.

So here we are at 2009, which a box set that's actually going to be available at the convention for late registration at a minimum. Why do you think this is?

I believe it's a combination of all factors, but I think the single biggest reason is that the toys are less popular this year. If the toys were more popular, I think more people would've made the effort to get out to California - or at the least, got an Iacon (non-attending) set.

Although I do know of multiple people that the economy, in some way, shape, or form, has caused them from being able to go this year.

And even though they've made more than ever before (Pete stated this), I bet they could've made the same amount for 2007 and 2008's sets and they still would've sold out. Probably even with 2006's set (even though it would've been post-convention).

Yeah, probably a little of everything. I doubt they'll last through the weekend, though.

A five and a half hour drive is the closest you'll ever have it. I have that much just to get to the airport. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-waspy.gif) I'm taking two days there and two days back.

Yeah, probably a little of everything. I doubt they'll last through the weekend, though.

Hm... I was going to say the location. *shrug* I think that could be narrowed down by finding out how many attendees fly VS drive/bus depending on the locations. I know it's pretty stupid for me to do this year.

I think FunPub probably shouldn't combine so many bad choices together if they can help it. (well... I guess they can't. maybe.) If they're going to have it on the West Coast, during a recession, make sure the exclusives are nostalgia-heavy. It's just not solid enough here. I think Razorclaw's probably the biggest draw. I think this was a BAD year to make TWO MASSIVE figures that are original characters. Even if it was Flak and Roadbuster (which neither of them are. It's not Roadbuster, and Flak's even less popular than the movie characters), it wouldn't be enough. This should have been the year we got Sunstorm. If FP's going to be adamant about not reusing a mold, then neither Energon or Classic Starscream's mold will be used for Sunstorm, and both/either lie with Hasbro.

Just flip them over and....

Well, you know the rest.

I can't really see how these have not sold out already, though lack of interest seems to be the biggest. I mean everyone HAD to have the jets, as we all remember. And Shattered Glass, while it had plenty of people who were not interested, at least won over many on concept. This one though, just doesn't have that spark, outside of a few of the characters. But yeah, a lot of factors play a part.

Oh, c'mon, I've made at least that much of a drive to BotCon probably seven times. Sometimes double that. Once triple. Don't make me laugh and/or mock you!

Not so great figs in a crappy economy, hardly surprising they haven't sold out yet.

If they still have some by weekend's ....end, at least when the next sold out set happens they'll have something better to offer than the 2005 set.

I think it's more these two than anything.

I'm not going because of location, but I didn't think it was a bad choice of location, just not convenient for me.

Where's the "Because of Universe/Classics/Henkei" option? Seriously, a few years back we'd all be drooling over these toys. Now, however, unless it's a perfectly redesigned upgrade for a G1 character, most people are indifferent about the repaint. Don't get me wrong, there are exceptions, but it seems that most non-G1 toys that get cast as G1 characters are met with a tad more hostility than they have previously. Not that that a bad thing. Not that that a good thing. Just an observation.

That and the "They made more of them" option. Had they made the same as last year, they would have sold out within a month. Maybe a little longer. Still though, a long ass time ago. If you remember how rapidly that first 80% plus sold, that's probably around the usual number produced. There are really just a few stragglers preventing them from selling out. Nothing catastrophically "fail" about the numbers sold by any means.

I suspect it's the economy.

And I seriously hope they have sets available online post-Con. While I've no eagerness to own Scourge, I'd like to have the others from the main set...and I'm sure Scourge could be sold easily on eBay.

Do you have any idea how many people take five and half hour flights to get to Botcon every year?

You have nothing to complain about, sir.

Well, to be fair, you can at least take a nap on a five hour flight. Not so much on a car trip, especially if he's driving.
