Have you ever gotten around to watching Enterprise yet?

If you don't like "messes of silly contrivances" why would you want a movie of a show that consisted of nothing *but* silly contrivances? Unless that was some awesome stealth-satire. I'm well-versed on your opinions regarding Enterprise, and I simply don't share them, lol. All fiction (and even some realities) are going to have their share of contrivances, but the ones used in this latest Trek movie (and in Nemesis, when it comes to that) reek of idiocy and bonehead writing. The contrivances, where used, in Enterprise never came off as particularly stupid. "Hey, let's make the Romulan ship look totally random and hip (though it wasn't cool at all, IMO)... oh, but then it doesn't really look Romulan. AT ALL. Hey, I know... let's throw some Borg stuff in there to explain it away..." Sorry, but Enterprise never had anything that stupid, or as stupid as several of the other things I've mentioned about this movie. It does have its good points, though... it's still a hell of a lot better than Nemesis and Insurrection with their sissy Picard clones and Klingon pimples... less boring than Generations with all the Klingon cleavage and extended-episode feel. I felt the cast did a very good job, given the questionable script they had to work with... though I didn't care for Chekov (probably partly because I don't really like the actor, and also because all Checkov did was be the brunt of some jokes). -------------------- QUOTE "With the first link, the chain is forged. Stealing tech from a military depot after the capital and a large portion of your race is wiped out doesn't require a lot of competency. Which is good, because Nero has little to none. However, I suppose this means the depot wasn't actually on Romulus; and wasn't destroyed by whatever destroyed that world. You'd think the staff and guards and everyone would still be around, then, to stop the psychopath from stealing some of the few useful resources that whatever's left of the Empire has to rebuild itself with. Which leads me to another question... what actually destroyed the planet, again? As much as I respect and like Leonard Nimoy, I don't particularly care for the people who were writing his lines this time out. We're to believe a single little supernova is somehow a threat to the galaxy at large? Granted, I wouldn't want to be near a supernova myself... but I don't see how it's a threat to anything beyond a single solar system. Nero didn't steal the tech. It was given to him by the people stationed at the vault. And the Hobus supernova was unique. Spock observed that it would continue to grow as it consumed more and more worlds. -------------------- ![]() |

Nero didn't steal the tech. It was given to him by the people stationed at the vault. Now I really hope the Empire survived, so there was somebody left to string those idiots up. You can upgrade a garbage scow with Borg tech; or even Iconian tech, if you want... you could install the Guardian of Forever in the middle of the bridge... but it's still a garbage scow. And the Hobus supernova was unique. Spock observed that it would continue to grow as it consumed more and more worlds. Which was my point... that sounds like possibly the most ridiculous and contrived thing ever, in the history of ridiculousness and contrived crap. I'd be more inclined to take the disembodied head of God at the center of the galaxy seriously than that... it's even crazier than the Enterprise always being the only ship in range (which, thank the disembodied head, this movie didn't do... every other ship that went just ended up as scrap, instead (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-waspy.gif) ). I actually really liked Enterprise.
I kinda like all the ST series, just for different reasons. *runs away* -------------------- Mental note: Time spent here is time spent not playing guitar.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-arcee.gif) No doubt; but something about the whole affair still irks me. On the whole, it was just all too contrived (in a bad way)... and the villain; very much like Shinzon, seemed more like a whiny crybaby who was doing all this stuff because his feelings are hurt. Pathetic motivation, if you ask me. -------------------- QUOTE "With the first link, the chain is forged. I don't know what one would be. Are we looking for trilithium at the bottom of the sea?

I don't know what one would be. Are we looking for trilithium at the bottom of the sea? As good a place as any to start. I'm pretty sure Trilithium is only produced as a byproduct in warp engines that use dilithium; nowhere in nature would be a good place to start looking for it. -------------------- QUOTE "With the first link, the chain is forged. So yes, one of those versus this (IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v152/MrBlud/USS_Constellation_Ship_06.jpg) (U.S.S Constellation commissioned in 1855) And the winner is clear. -------------------- ![]() |

A guy on the SHortpacked! forums asked a pretty interesting question: http://www.blanklabelcomics.com/community/...p=207155#207155
So, like, if the new Kirk and Spock traveled back to 1986, would they find the original Kirk and Spock saving a whale? -------------------- --David Shortpacked!: Toys are serious business The Transformers Wiki: Because too many links is never enough. GOOGLE'D - Deep Sea Mining Vessels Curses! I'm pretty sure Trilithium is only produced as a byproduct in warp engines that use dilithium; nowhere in nature would be a good place to start looking for it. CURSES!!! I just went back and looked and it was DECAlithium that Nero was looking for before he went all crazy and shaved his head and turned his ship into a scary claw and ruined Blud's whole winter. -------------------- "...not to mention plot oversights you could drive a dyson sphere through. A guy on the SHortpacked! forums asked a pretty interesting question: http://www.blanklabelcomics.com/community/...p=207155#207155 So, like, if the new Kirk and Spock traveled back to 1986, would they find the original Kirk and Spock saving a whale? Here's my interesting rebuttal. They would not be there, as their timeline is gone. (I think this is, ultimately, the least head-explodey way to view the new universe, personally, but I know others disagree and think they both co-exist now. I think it's an alternate, others think it's parallel. I'm not trying to debate that, but just pointing out where I'm coming from.) Star Trek (2009) makes pretty clear that "whatever happened, happened" is not the rule they follow. The past is definitely changeable, as Spock Prime is well aware. So I'd say that Kirk Prime and Spock Prime are no longer in 1986. They trick though, is what about Gillian? She's originally from the past, so technically shouldn't have changed with a timeline that changed from 2234 forward. Everything that happened to her should still have happened, including going to the 23rd century. So...where is she? Is she in the altered 23rd century with her memories of the Prime universe and wondering what the hell happened? Or would the timeline really be able to bubble back as far as necessary to undo and temporal interference from the Prime universe? ::head explodey anyway:: -------------------- |

Here's my interesting rebuttal. They would not be there, as their timeline is gone. But they were supposed to be there! It was predestination, they gave the past transparent aluminum, without which the present would not have occurred. And if Future Spock gets to hang around even though he's out of his own timeline, why can't that Spock also persist further in the past? -------------------- --David Shortpacked!: Toys are serious business The Transformers Wiki: Because too many links is never enough.
