I like the comparison between theirs and Hasbros'.

Dammit.

I bought Universe Onslaught just because he was big and neat-looking.

Now I have to fight my sick OCD urge to return it and pay more money for a toon-accurate version of a character I can BARELY remember.

Takara page: "Hey, remember the cartoon when Silverbolt was gray and burgundy? Well, forget that screencap, have him in white and red!"

Folks:

It's amusing that they picked a badly distorted view of Onslaught's truck mode, which makes his squarish cab look more like the hull of the Classics APC.

Powerglide looks great in red, especially in plane mode. I guess I like the color red. I think the darker color also looks better on the robot mode than the white does. The white has a certain unfortunate "Powerglide - the Vegas Years" appearance to it, with the bulky design and lack of much contrast. I've actually been toying with the idea of buying Stormcloud and making that toy into Powerglide with some minor repainting and restickering. I think a black Powerglide would be nifty.

The fact that I'm too poor is the only thing keeping me from buying the US and Japanese Powerglide's and switching the arms to get an even closer-to-G1 look.

-ZacWilliam, kinda hoping we still get a Legends Powerglide so he doesn't comically dwarf the rest of his minibot S2 friends.

ZW:

You know, PG's gray arms and red body always made him look like he was wearing a red wife-beater shirt.

I started this post out with the idea that this was a bad thing, but upon further reflection, it's a perfect fit.

I like the blue on Takara's Onslaught a lot better, but that's about it. The new cartoon-accurate head coloring looks weird with the toy shape (whereas the Hasbro version has the toy shape and generally the toy color). Powerglide still seems as off to me because they couldn't get the arms grey.. and Silverbolt is just meh.

Waaaaaay too much red on Powerglide, and too bright a shade. It's garish, and the fact that he doesn't have much contrasting color makes it more than a little weird.

Meanwhile Silverbolt and Onslaught are fairly close to their US decos, just more saturated/brighter. Not an improvement, in Onslaught's case.

Very close indeed.

Monzo's going to be huge in Japan.

I think technically these are not Henkei, but "USA Edition" TakaraTomy releases still bearing the Universe logo. So on some level they do have to be the toys we get here in the US, though as you can see with Powerglide the "USA Edition" releases make that a very loose interpretation in some cases.

Interesting. They're recolored extensively, which would seem pretty unusual for that labeling.

(And I see the wiki is already pointing out this unusual fact (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif) )

Thanks to mold layout issues, it's both more and less accurately colored. I for one am perfectly happy with considering this a Rattrap ->TM Rattrap style upgrade for Powerglide. It's still Powerglide, which makes me happy more than arbitrarily making him red all over.

It has the wrong colored arms as opposed to Universe Silverbolt who has the wrong colored everything else.

Universe Silverbolt? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif)

I love Universe Powerglide, but the Japanese version just looks so much better to me.
