I'm not following what this is, my guess is something translated off the BWR golden disk?

This is an official text story that ran over four installments in the pages of Dengeki Hobby, concurrent with the release of the BWR 01 set.

I don't want to give away too much of the story, but it centers mainly around Optimus Primal and Megatron, and circumstances surrounding their journey to the Galaxy Force universe after their destruction in the events of Beast Wars Returns (Beast Machines).

I plan to post the next installment in two weeks, and will be doing more Zone material in the meantime.

Very interesting. I had a feeling it'd have to do with Galaxy Force... I mean, Primus and his "Messenger" make that fairly obvious. Can't wait for more! Thanks!

Oh... were there any more images that accompanied the story? I like the artwork.

Intriguing. I wasn't sure where the story was going at first, then I figured it was a continuation of Beast Machines. Looks promising, though I didn't really keep up with Cybertron/Galaxy Force.

Also, what's Megatron's dialogue like in the Japanese text? He sounds pretty cool and collected in the English translation, whereas he was always pretty loud and oafish in the Japanese dub of the show.

Well, whereas Convoy pretty much uses a normal vernacular, Megatron's manner of speech seems rather aloof and forceful. Pretty much what you'd expect from the description of him as seeming very "regal." This story is completely aimed at adult collectors and has a strong Sci-Fi feel to it, so it probably lacks some of the light humor of the show.

Oh, since this was an illustrated text story there are only a couple pictures accompanying each chapter.

By the way, it's 2007 now Might Gaine. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif)

Nice.

Though it's hard to believe that where Victory Saber failed, a handful of Smurfs could defeat Trypticon and King Poseidon. But hey, new toys!

Glad my humor is appreciated. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif)

Yeah, we have a lot of New Character Syndrome going on here, but it seems less retarded than usual for the following reasons:

*It's established that the Destrons laid a trap for Victory Saber, and drew him into an underwater fight where he's evidently less proficient.

*The Microtransformers are shown to be useful in various other functions, such as recue and disaster control.

Also, Dai Atlas shows up next month, but rather than just having him take control from Victory Saber for no reason, the Zone manga was published in a booklet form with this issue, so we get the full story on how Victory Saber was critically wounded by an exploding planet Feminia.

Since it follows next story-wise, the next Zone material placed up will be the manga. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-ironhide.gif)

I've actually got a sort of related but not really question for you.

The Transformers: the Comics collection effectively collected all the G1 manga published in TV Magazine and as mail-away offers...except the "Scramble Power Zenkai" mail-away special. Is there any reason why Million Publishing excluded that one? It's sorta-kinda important, at least since it features the last appearance of Kenji (to my knowledge) and Metroplex finally showing up. Were there some sort of legal issues behind it not being included in the collection, like it was published by a different company or something?

It's very interesting to find out that "Tote," aka "Flak" (Flak was the name of one of the Military Patrol in the Hasbro continuity, too; maybe somebody at Takara got mixed up. Heh.) is the leader of the Off-Road Patrol. I always figured Powertrain was their leader, simply by dint of his being a semi cab. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) I like the gray jet (Nightflight) being the leader of the "Jet Team," too, rather than Stormcloud, who led the Air Strike Patrol; the gray and blue jet always reminded me a bit of Starscream, meaning I tended to automatically make him leader when I was a kid.

And wait...Erector's battle mode is a *jet*? That's a new one. Crajet, huh? (Contraction of "crane" and "jet".)

You're thinking of Roadjet, I take it? Erector is Cragun (right, contraction of crane and gun.)
Of course by this rationale, is seems that the green and blue transport's alt mode should be a male cow. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif)

Oops, phooey, I got my contractions mixed up, there. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) Still, it does appear as if Cragun is flying into battle in that picture where all four transports are arriving to reinforce Victory Saber against the Destrons. Admittedly, I guess Transformers Energon/Super Link proved to us that anything can fly in Transformers land, regardless of whether it's aerodynamic or even has a suitable means of propulsion. But wait, these guys aren't in space; Hot Shot drove through space in Energon. ^_^

Seeing Victory Saber and the Micromasters fight side by side is really neat, though, especially in light of the fact that Robot Master Victory Saber's inner robot is essentially (In toy terms) a Micromaster himself. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif)

Was this published in the same book as the Manga that is translated at TFArchive.com?

If so, what pages was this on?

It was indeed republished in the TF: The Comics compilation. It would have been in the very tail end, just before the Battlestars manga (another thing I plan to get translated shortly.)

The Zone manga isn't anything too exciting to me personally as the guys I like didn't start popping up until later in the series, but I do like how the Powered Masteres are described consistently as being something like pioneers/ecologists. More interesting than just lots of "guy who shoots stuff" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif)

Thanks, but if you have the book on hand, would you mind letting me know what pages it was on?

I want to put the translated pages in a .cbr file when the book is is fully translated (or, at least the comic pages), and need the page numbers to do this.

Thanks!

580-612

Though oddly, it is printed backward. As in it starts at the end of the story and progresses to the beginning. This is likely due to the fact that it was paneled in a Western left-to-right style which clashes with the other manga in the book, which are done in the traditional right-to-left style.

Speaking of which, why *was* this one done Western style?

Anyhow, another great job Hydra and Might Gaine!

Although most of us have seen the story animated by now (its been in the interweb for years), the manga's an interesting footnote.

I love Magami Ban's manga designs for the Generals. I dunno why they changed so many of them for the anime, particularly Predaking, who looks so...DUMB in the OVA.

Also interesting to see Akira and Kain so...not gay in this interpretation. The idea that Akira may have been originally intended to be a girl is strange. I had no idea that was also the case with Buster in Masterforce.

Dammit Japan, can't you keep your genders straight?
