You know ever since I first got my hands on an original Galvatron toy. It hit me why they made him crazy in the cartoons. Those triangular eyes give him a weird twisted facial expression.
I mean.... It even looks like one eye is bigger than the other if i'm not mistaken. I keep looking at this toy and think of him as some sort of escaped mental patient. That clear plastic cannon always makes me think he uses it to smoke crystal meth. I really wonder what the hell we're the designers thinking when they designed Galvatron like that. I mean the e-hobby reissue sort of takes away the crazy look even though it makes the face a bit more toon accurate. Also, I can't help but think the crown was originally meant to be a take on the queen in chess. Like Megatron is the king chess piece and Galvatron is the queen. Which makes sense, I mean Galvatron is much more indestructible and mobile than Megatron is if you think of it. Yet without the king the game is over. Wonder if this works as a comparison to Magnus and Prime. Or Rodimus and Ultra Magnus. Or for that matter Cyclonus and Galvatron. Since without Cylonus the season 3 cons would be screwed. I wonder if that affected their idea to make Galvatron mentally unstable? Like, originally Galvatron was planned to be this seperate character. More powerful than Megatron but because of his loopyness he never became leader. It's interesting to wonder if the designers really had thought this stuff when they made these toys or not. Or did some writer look at his toy and think hmm... He looks like a complete fruitloop thats it he's gonna be crazy. Or did they think some kid is gonna play with him in the bathtub and fry those electronics. hence, the plasma bath. Yes, i'm reaching (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) very heavily. Just seems like fun stuff to ponder. Since I do get that one floor from the cuckoos nest vibe from him even without the cartoon or comics. Anyways, what toys have weird faces that make you wonder about what the designers were thinking at the time? This post has been edited by MonsterFromMars: Feb 8 2010, 02:29 PM -------------------- .

The Transmetals were generally fine. The 2's, on the other hand...

Anything Beast Wars that had a snarling expression with a human style face. TM Cheetor comes to mind.
Also, Armada Cyclonus, Hot Shot, and Demolisher. Demolisher is the best of the lot, but he still could use a lot of work. Randy -------------------- ![]() |

Armada Demolishor... He looks constipated. It's a shame really as he was by far one of the better toys from Armada, great alt mode, okay bot mode, great minicon and minicon interaction, but uuugly face.

QUOTE That silly toaster that everyone seems to love for some reason. I think he's meant to be a gremlin like oni. He does sort of look like a Japanese demon. As for the transmetals I think the intent was to give them inverted faces. Their organic parts became their innards and the mechanical parts became their outer parts. Since, both the fake organic skin and metal merged toghether. It was like they had bodies with vok technology. The cartoon ignored it somewhat but in a way i'm thankful they did because Megatron looked better with his robotic face. Primal did seem to have an organic face though. Heh, Clint eastwood. Hmm, You know with Demolishor and Cyclonus I definately would love retools that gave them better faces with lightpiping for the eyes. They always had that Euro G1 feel to me of guys like the Decepticon Predators. Especially the Takara version of Cyclonus with the gold parts instead of tan. Makes you wonder what voyager sized versions of both would look like. I'd definately like Cyclonus and Demolishor redone as voyagers, with both shoulders able to fire missiles on Demolishor and both of them having added articulation and light piping. ^Masterpiece Megatron definitely has the Eastwood squint and the general "displeased with everyone" expression:
(IMG:http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b272/Skidplates/Collection/GIJoe/IMG_5754.jpg) Snapper always looked like he was giggling to me. In general, it's really amusing that, when you compare the Maximal toy faces to those of the Predacons, most of the Maximals are grimacing, and the Predacons are grinning. Maybe the Maximals should reevaluate their lifestyle choices... This post has been edited by Moroboshi Ataru: Feb 8 2010, 02:59 PM -------------------- ![]() |

That silly toaster that everyone seems to love for some reason. C16: We love him for he brings to the world joy and toast. Blaster is his friend too, but only early in the morning. I think this thread would feel incomplete if nobody said hOt sHOt. He is the poster boy. This post has been edited by Autobus Prime: Feb 8 2010, 03:40 PM -------------------- |

Funny that Armada Cyclonus and Demolisher should remind you of the G2 Decepticons. They all remind me of the Cybertronian warriors in the G2 comics.
G1 Megatron has an interesting face. He looks like he's grimacing. G1 Cyclonus always seems like he's grinning eerily to me. G1 Wheelie has this smilie face. Universe Wide Load (RID repaint) has that annoying smirk. G1 Bumblebee with the anime face always reminds me of Twiki from the 80's Buck Rogers series. G1 Rodimus Prime has a confident, semi-smug expression at a certain angle. Other angles, I feel he looks grimly determined. Classics Springer (Evac repaint) has a very grim expression. G1 Ultra Magnus has a young face to me. He always seems to be depicted older in the fiction. Not old like Kup just not a youngster like Hot Rod and Siren. |

The Ice Cream Twins? Or does that not count? I certainly wonder what the hell they were thinking when they made the characters.
