I am beyond stoked over Waspinator's victory - partly because he was who I was voting for, partly because I figured it'd be Grimlock, and partly because I'm just glad Erecetor didn't win. And Walky didn't even have a Waspy campaign like he did with Dinobot this year, which just PROVES the genuine love for Beast Wars that exists in this quantity.

Like I said, amazing how the one Beast Wars character gets in each year when the G1 vote is being split four ways. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-arcee.gif)

Also, proving people love Beast Wars a lot is like proving The Law of Gravity, isn't it? It might take something to make it official, but people pretty much have always known about it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-arcee.gif)

On the way in: Peanut M&Ms, mildly stale popcorn, bottled water, and a 3D Cinemask.

On the way out: Two mini-posters (one for DOTM, one for KRE-O), a card thingy commemorating the HoF, and a Transformers Prime promo image. EDIT: Oh, and a cleaning cloth and a Baby Bottle Pop.

Oh yes, you're right, 2 BW characters in a row.

Next year, Rattrap!

As much as I like Ratty, I think Blackarachnia should get it next. The Hall of Fame could use a female character in it, and she is pretty important, being the first female TF to get a toy here in the US.

Plus her getting in before Arcee would be delicious! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif)

Blackarachnia was also prominently important in all three seasons of BW and both seasons of BM. She's the only TF character other than BW Megatron, Optimus Primal, Cheetor, and Rattrap (all also from BW) that can say she was a major character for such a long time.

Yup, and then add to the fact you can pretty much thank Blackarachnia for us getting female toys regularly now. It certainly wasn't Arcee, it was Blackarachnia who did the legwork. That's pretty spectacular for a character that started out as a simple repaint. If Blackarachnia wasn't such a strong character, she likely would have never gotten to the stage where she got her own original mold, and a Mega sized one to boot, nor been a carry over to BM. She also was included in the original Universe line and managed to be one of the characters from BW to get included in Animated, and with a much larger role then Waspinator had.

It can even be argued that Blackarachnia's influence is still being felt, with her now having homage characters based on her. Airarchnid certainly has some Blackarachnia influences, even if the two are separate.

I hope that Hasbro would include her as an automatic inductee, but unfortunately, I see them selecting Arcee first.

QUOTE(Otaku @ Jun 5 2011, 08:06 AM) *
I really wonder if there needs to be pre-designated slots for the nominees to fill instead of just five "for anyone", and perhaps if the automatic inductee process needs to be stepped up a little quicker. We've had two years of "four G1, one BW" character. Fan tastes vary, but I would assume that most people would be like me: if I didn't like any of the characters nominated, I'd still vote at least a few times for a character that represented my preferred Transformers series. Inspired by the desire of some posters to see a female character nominated, if next year we saw it come down to Arcee (G1), Elita-1 (G1), Blackarachnia (BW), Airrazor (BW), and Override (Cybertron), I think my money would be on Override. What appears to be the two largest wings of fandom would be split, while we get one nominee that could easily be a rallying point for Unicron Trilogy fans as well as G1 and BW "anti-fans" who are tired of hearing specific fandoms crow about how great their series is. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-arcee.gif) If next year we got a choice between Blaster (G1), Cheetor (BW), Rattrap (BW), and Rhinox (BW)... well I'd actually vote Rhinox (loved him in BW and BM), but splitting the BW franchise four ways while giving a single character for G1 fans and BW anti-fans to rally around? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-primal.gif)

So I guess I am just wondering if things would work better if no more than two characters of a particular series would be accepted as nominees, or at the very least no more than three!

To be fair, even if you slapped Airrazor and Blackarachnia in the same poll, I'd almost guarantee BA would end up the victor. She has a heck of a lot more of a fan following than Airrazor.

I'm also wondering if maybe the current state of the brand and fandom aren't playing a little into that as well. Not that I'm begrudging seeing more Beast Wars love, it just feels to me that with Hasbro's G1-centric focus (movies pulled a LOT from G1, the comics and Classics lines are REMAKING G1, and many of the legacy characters appearing in Prime feel quite G1), maybe the strong performance of Beast Wars in these polls is reflective of a perceived need in the brand.

Pretty much all of the HoF selections (except odd ball Erector) have either gotten new Classics toys, or are likely on the very short list of those really needing them. Even if the characters aren't a core element to the mass market brand, they still have strong collector appeal (Grimlock's only notable media role in the past 10 years was in Animated, but we got 3 toys of him in the years prior to that)

I wonder if we were getting more Beast Wars media and toys, if there wouldn't be the "need" to rally around that brand's characters in these polls.

He did this comic; http://www.shortpacked.com/2011/comic/book...y-issues/plans/

Found them via Google. Of course, I still think BW being more recent gives it a big advantage. I could see even the AEC characters getting a voting boost in a few years.

Actually fully half of her toys only have six+chelicerae. And the other half are terrible toys despite the increased ontological accuracy.

I don't really see how that's fair to Arcee, either. Hasbro would have actually needed to release an Arcee toy in order for her to "do the legwork." Should point out there still isn't a Classics Arcee toy, which is something I'm sure iGear appreciates @ $130 a pop.

I must concur with Dante's sentiments about Blackarachnia being fortunate she was given the chance to do the "legwork" and not someone else. Would Blackarachnia have gotten a toy had she shown up in G1? I mean, the one recurring female Autobot didn't, and neither did the handful that appeared before she did as one-shot characters. would Hasbro have felt a need to do any better by BA if a lot of people hadn't been annoyed by the lack of female character toys in G1 (at least major ones released in the US)?

Granted, I grew tired of her character so I'm a bit biased. :-P

Though I do agree: her fandom is large. If she were on the ballot she could dominate unless paired against the most popular Beast Wars characters, or her Animated counterpart (which I still like).

Hasbro has a G1-centric focus but... why shouldn't they? Beast Wars had its fair share of G1-homages, and a lot of the Beast Wars' character names are awkward to slap onto non-beast forms. Then "beast modes" themselves seem to be trickier to do well than vehicle based modes, at least based on the results. There's also the time difference: G1 just has seniority. Perhaps it is time to more thoroughly revisit Beast Wars or Machines...

...as long as they stealth continuations of Animated! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-arcee.gif)

A character being forgotten is a pretty good reason for not being in the Hall of Fame.

Good job, Waspinator. Good job.

On the subject of Arcee and female bots, we'll see how TF:Prime affects that by next year, I'd guess.

Aaron Archer reiterated in the IP panel that the Hall of Fame is something they want to be taken seriously and do not want to ever see a nominee like Erector again. As they don't like the Hall of Fame, where they want to honor those who have contributed to the lore and brand, to be thought of as a joke.
