Also, 86% of the fans are now adult males? No, they are just the vocal ones on the internet. Would that mean that little girls make up the other 14% on the internet? =p -------------------- I find you to be a valuable member of the community. ... That...makes sense. Your theory is fairly well thought out, and definitely sounds like it could work. Holy crap! That's very haunting. I must fav that! That just replaced my other Luna fav. |

Oh, don't be silly. It is established fact that there are no girls on the internet, only undercover FBI agents.

We're the subject of yet another Tor.com article: Geek Love: On the Matter of Bronies.
Written by an outsider looking in (also, it desperately needs an editor; the writer's style is way too stream-of-consciousness), but generally positive, and raises a lot of well-considered sociological comments. -------------------- ![]() |

Interesting read. I never considered it, but the thing about feminism and challenging gender taboos is pretty shockingly new in terms of social/cultural development.

The whole thing is pretty much "It is not wrong to watch it and we are experiencing the start of a new social change." I enjoyed reading it.

I hear there is some negative feed back coming from LA brony con like there is no recording allowed, none of the mane six showed up and they are kicking out famous artists for some reason. They are complaining it has been to corporatized and not fan friendly.

That does not sound good at all.
-------------------- You're turning into the real-life version of that little devil that hovers over people's shoulders and tells them to do horrible things. I'm not liking this development. Lesson of the day, when we go on some crazy quest, don't let Fnu Aw hold the Dues Ex Magical Artifact. Right, that's it. Tomorrow, I'm painting a giant pentagram on the floor, then buying a goat and sacrificing it to Fnu Aw, Lord of All Evil. |

They are making it sound like a business took it over.

At least with this fandom there are options. If a convention goes downhill, someone will start up a better one.

I do know that this is the last year of EQLA as EQLA, as the organizers want to broaden to a western-animation convention rather than an FiM-specific one.
Found these regarding the filming request; appears to be regarding a single panel: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/lpobst https://twitter.com/Megaman_RA/status/333364396669693953 And it sounds like the artist thing may have been a rules violation; there's controversy about whether it really was, but it's their event to run. So, meh. Nothing to see here. Drama drama drama drama, please move along. |

It'll probably end up dominated by ponies anyway.

Given their origins and the current zeitgeist? Almost certainly, but I suspect that they see an opportunity to mitigate their risk on a pony crash, but still differentiate themselves from other conventions.

Drama drama drama drama, please move along. Yeah, your right, apparently some guy was kicked out for trying to sell porn outside the convention. A thing that seems pretty common in most other ones. Here is Purple Tinker rambling on about it. I do know that this is the last year of EQLA as EQLA, as the organizers want to broaden to a western-animation convention rather than an FiM-specific one. That does sound like a good idea. Even though I like the idea of a pony exclusive only con, this way more people can be exposed to the pony culture. It is kind of like when Star Wars and Star Trek went from their own conventions to Sci-fi or comic ones. This way Transformers can have their own little booth surrounded by pink ones! =D Can you imagine people wondering why so many grown men showed up to a cartoon convention? I can imagine one of them reasoning "maybe Sponge Bob?" It'll probably end up dominated by ponies anyway. That and they want an excuse to bring in other shows the staff worked on. Like the stuff Laura Faust and Tara Strong did Given their origins and the current zeitgeist? Almost certainly, but I suspect that they see an opportunity to mitigate their risk on a pony crash, but still differentiate themselves from other conventions. What do you mean pony crash? You mean all these bits I invested in will be worthless? This post has been edited by Sobana: May 12 2013, 09:44 PM -------------------- I find you to be a valuable member of the community. ... I think your bit-valued investments are safe for a while, but FiM is a bright star, and it's reasonable to at least hedge against the possibility it might burn out quickly.
But seriously, when FiM does wrap up, I expect a lot of cons will have to as well. I think the EQLA staff is just trying to get a head start on keeping their event running well into the future, and I wish them luck. |

Around here broad conventions already get dominated by ponies. It's fun to watch. No matter what the artists specialize in, they end up with a line of people requesting ponies. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif)
