Every so often, something comes up in the episode discussions that makes it clear that somewhere along the way, the world of Prime & Rescue Bots deviated significantly from the real world; this is in contrast to some of the previous shows (like pre-Movie G1 and the Bayverse) which tried to use the real world as a backdrop as much as possible.

This is what's been noted so far. Please chip in if you see anything else.

Bold = Prime / Rescue Bots.

Military:

The RAH-66 Comanche is the standard assault helicopter for the US military.

The Comanche was cancelled in 2004, leaving the AH-64 family as America's dominant assault helicopter.

The F-35 Lightning II is the standard air superiority fighter for the US military.

Only 63 have been fielded so far, and they're all being held back as trainers.

A version of the UH-1 Iroquois with a chin-mounted machine gun is the standard transport helicopter for US commandos.

No such Huey variant is known to exist. Those with guns either have them as door-mounts or used gun pods under the wings.

Additionally, the US Army has phased out the UH-1 in exchange for the UH-60 Blackhawk.

History:

A Russian military base in Kamchatka had to be abandoned in 1991 due to volcanic activity.

The Wiki can't find any real-life evacuations.

An artificial volcano was featured in the 1939 World's Fair.

Nope.

Nature / Science:

A wild Grizzly bear lives within the woods on Griffin Rock, a New England island

There haven’t been wild Grizzlies in that part of the world for decades. - Sabrblade

I'm guessing this thread is about how the shows differ in human history and such, and not stuff like whether or not real-world earth is actually Unicron,

...right?

Pretty much.

A lot of the past TF shows have been "It's just like our Earth, except SHOCKING SWERVE!" (Fortress Maximus being hidden on the planet, the mini-cons causing Atlantis to sink, et cetra).

But with Prime and Rescue Bots, I'm noticing subtle and not-so-subtle instances where things are noticeably different even outside of the whole "Unicron" bit.

I don't think the things you listed here would be noticeable to the average viewer. Most military hardware is somewhat generic as far as most people a concerned so using an older helicopter in lieu of the latest Black Hawk will go unnoticed by most people, hell it take me a few minuets to find mistakes in US Army uniforms on TV and in movies and I wear one almost every day.

I'm not sure it's really any different. I think a country called "Carbombya" existing is a larger departure from reality than the military using outdated helicopters.

The G1 cartoon had the Soviet Union existing in the 21st cntury. Not exactly "history" since the show was made in the 80s, but well...

Beast Wars had T.rex and Velociraptor fossils in Africa, the Great Rift Valley about 20 feet wide, and at least two million years and three modifications of genera in human evolution taking place in about three months.

In the Movieverse, humans didn't find out you could use burning oil to generate energy to move a piston until whenever Archibald found Megatron, since it was only from his technology that cars were made possible.

One of the things both sets of writers have in common is that they're rather darn good at conserving detail, not only within each individual episode but also across episodes.

There's almost no telling what is and isn't going to be significant in the future.

Believe it or not, lots of serious people thought the USSR was going to keep going for a very long time. It's really hard to understand, looking back, just how permanent the Soviet Union looked from the outside, at the time. Likewise, the dissolution of the Communist Bloc in the late 80s and early 90s was a really big deal. The fall of the Berlin Wall caught a lot of people by surprise.

"When there's gold feathers, punch behind you!!"
.
"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." -- C.S. Lewis
