The interview with Shogo Hasui gave me this thought and I'm wondering if anyone can enlighten me. Why are Hasbro Transformer designers from before the Unicron Trilogy so hard to find? I mean, it took years before we even knew some of their names.

I've been trying to track down the late G1/G2 team for a while now (it was apparently a ridiculously small team on both sides of the world at the time) - Todd Wise for design, Don Marini for engineering. I believe I've found the latter but have no way to contact him, while I just have a minor lead on the former.

The trickier guys to find belong to the Beast Wars team which apparently was larger, but I only know exactly two names from it - Chris Gross, the lead designer, and Tim Bradley, another design team member who carried over to Beast Machines. Again, I've found the latter, but I can't hunt down the former, nor have I discovered any other members of the design team.

Before 1989 is a total blank.

Probably because in Japan when you work for a company it's usually a much stronger and longer relationship than it is often in the US.

That and TakaraTomy seems to like to promote / publicize their designers (with interviews and spotlights in magazines) while Hasbro is more of the mind of Hasbro as a whole rather than any individual.

But yeah since no one was around in the old days of Hasbro's TF Team, it's hard to find any information about them now.

A search I just did suggests they're both still at Hasbro. [1] [2] Not sure if that really helps though.

Hasbro didn't do RID designs per se, and a lot of Beast era staff may have been purged when they shuttered their Cincinnati office around 2000. And before that? People retire.

What did you search? Seeing Todd Wise being the Senior VP of toy design is pretty big thing.

Huh. I'd been searching "Todd Wise +Hasbro", "Todd Wise +designer", "Todd Wise +design", etc and blew it. MORE INFO IS GOOD INFO.

I think it would be awsome to have your favorite TF autographed by the desinger

Wouldn't Hasbro HR still maintain at least some of these records?

Perhaps if we put together a polite enough letter on behalf of the Wiki?

Yeah, that would be cooler than a voice actor, I think.

Aaron Archer designed TM2 Megatron. Or at least had a large role in it.

Yeah, Aaron Archer is accountable for a lot of the TM2 figures. I don't know who handled TM Tarantulas, although I do have files of his control art.

I know someone's going to post Kiss Players Legion in response to that, but I'll not be the one.

On topic, anyone have ideas who might be the best to search for in terms of finding past Hasbro personnel management?

oot/ It would never work out between us PC, you're a Rirfib and I'm on the right side... I'd only get your hopes up and just end up hurting you... and think of the children ... by the time they're in their teens they be all up in out faces with "ENEMY IS THE BEST!" and then we'd have to put them down...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-screamer.gif) It can never be.

In other words, anything thought up by any individual artist gets to become "intellectual property of the company," and the individual person gets jack squat and thrown into the ethereal abyss of obscurity and nothingness. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-wildride.gif)
