So... what do you build once you got the survival thing down?
I mean: the fortress is built, the walls impenetrable, supplies are plentiful, and a private and totally secure mine... now what? All the building you've done to date was to make sure that you don't succumb to the monsters outside, but what now? -------------------- |

I took care of monsters LONG ago, with my first house! Now I'm expanding. Started work on a Deeeep Staircase, and an enormous shaft, underground. Continuing work on the Tree Tower and have created the foundation for the Lighthouse, which will be a huge non-organic tower. Also exploring across the sea in my boat and going to build a mine cart track!

Minecart track...
I could make a roller coaster. Or an aquaduct system for my biodome. -------------------- |

Okay, if you guys want a fun time, look up the Cartographer program some guy wrote for minecraft. It renders the map of your chosen world into an image, so you can see not only the lay of the land for everything you've generated but also anything you've built, as well as a slew of other options.
In fact, you can get it (and all the files you might need to run it) here. Warning: Official minecraft forums. Gonna toy with it some tomorrow, and generate a map with for my newest map. Maybe get a good shot of my survival lodge, and help me find a spot for my next big project. -------------------- |

Along the way I put up some torches on interesting geological features so I could return to them. I built a boat 2 days into my trip... and gave up another two days later. I turned around and went home, afraid that I would never see it again. I eventually reached it... but from the opposite side I anticipated. I'm not sure what kind of body of water I am dealing with... Maybe its a big u-shaped lake? Also, I am totally digging this game. -------------------- What signature?

Yeah, great game. And the water generates randomly, so it could literally be any shape, any size. You might have been trying to navigate around an ocean.
(IMG:http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/6228/map3obliquenowaterday.png) There's me lodge, the tower lighthouse, and there's a boat on the water, you just can't see it. This post has been edited by wonko the sane?: Jul 25 2010, 08:10 AM -------------------- |

Yeah, I got lost once. A friendly Creeper sent me home. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif)
Since then, I've been extra vigilant about putting up torch pylons. -------------------- |

Actually, I wouldn't mind it too much if you didn't always respawn back home.
It would make death a bit more irritating... but it would just be cool to stumble onto your old home after having given up for weeks. Also, mine carts aren't quite as fun as I had hoped. I was expecting autopowered carts like in minecart carnage for some reason... but these are realistic and gravity powered... You have to push them uphill... There's at least one trick for getting them to go like rockets--physics abuse. On my other computer, will upload when the damnable wireless is fixed.

Heh... I'm so far behind the curve. I'm only now farming, never mind minecarts and tracks.
Did get started on my big project though. Oh boy, is it big. -------------------- |

My big project. Prototype for a clan hub (or just really big house). 64 blocks to a side, with 8 brick wide circular shaft going up not quite the middle. The larger portions (south west in the picture) will be workshops, Deep mine platform, and an indoor harbor. The short side will be divided roughly into as many 8 by 8 rooms as possible. The next floor up will be glassed in and used as farmland. The top of the pyramid will probably be a light house of some kind.
And before anyone asks: Yes. I am cheating to make it. I'm using INVEdit to give myself tools and unlimited resources to make it. Though I did get about half way through whats there before giving up and cheating. -------------------- |

Woot Woot! I just came from the development blog: They stress tested Survival Multiplayer last night. It was slow, it was laggy, and people were prone to DCing, but the server side requirements were lower than he estimated and on an infinite map no less.
Can't wait for the secret friday update. I think I know what its gonna be. -------------------- |

Alright. So I'm thinking of a little game:
I've built a little world here; a small, almost humble shelter, some tools and gathered a few supplies. All in the shadow of some neat geographical features and resources. One at a time, someone declare your taking it and build in it for a day. You have the world for 24 hours, do as you please except: Don't modify the shelter I built, and don't change anything anyone else has built. Everything else is free to you. Compress and upload for the next person at the end of your day. Download, decompress and install. Warning: Megaupload is the service I used. To install it, decompress and place it in C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves. You might need to enable hidden files to actually see the directory. -------------------- |

Alright, my spawn sets me off on this dinky Island which I've now mostly hollowed out with my base, quite comfy. The island is very beach and one beach has a cave which connects to another island's cave just a little ways a way. I spent an hour and a half in that damn cave trying to get out and nearly dying from hugging skeletons...jeez. Managed to get out with a lot of iron, gold, that red stuff, and I think some diamond, good run.
Wish you could invite friends to your world and vice-versa....could help build...move in even...maybe it'll happen. This post has been edited by Zek Patterson: Aug 4 2010, 11:14 AM -------------------- |

I'm sure that once the multiplayer server software is out (soon!) that someone will have a dedicated allspark server.
