Got my issue this morning.

Quickly looking through HIGHLIGHT to view:
Deathsaurus offers the Combaticons new forms, the one they show is Blast-Off from the Astrotrain mold with a new head. And Lyzack (Leozack's sister) is Leozack with just pink lipstick on her face. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif)

Randy

HIGHLIGHT to view:
Boooo, Lyzack should have had Rescue Force Leozack's colors. At least, those are the colors I've always pictured her. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif)

Do I get an email notification before I receive the magazine or does it just arrive unannounced? I only joined in July so this will be my first Club Mag, so I'm just curious.

I got mine today in the mail. Lots of Botcon coverage. I do wish someone would have the sense to record the club panel and put it on youtube for those of us who cannot attend.

Deathsaurus and Metalhawk bios are good. Deathsaurus is the Botcon toy, but only able to take on ONE mode (the jet). He's researching multi mode tech. Ends up Metalhawk was upgraded with "captured" Decepticon tech to become a flyer (what was he BEFORE that? A race car?). Someone needs to make a Generations toy of this guy.

I liked the main comic, I do have to work on making some custom EG Combaticon toys (G1 toys with Autobot symbols). Nice cameo by Classic Astrotrain's design. Around Cybertron featured an interview with "doc" from The Secret of Omega Supreme.

Recordicons... was that supposed to be funny? Yes, we get it, Ravage is annoying and playful... who cares again? The only good thing I could say about it is it gives us some small amount of SG fiction. How about the club release a redeco og the SDCC Blaster set with SG Blaster and SG cassettes? I'd buy that!

My only real complaint is
HIGHLIGHT to view:
The Combaticon-focus means that NONE of the club-exclusive figures--Dion, in particular--are featured at all. I really do feel that the club comic, only giving us six pages every two months, needs to focus on those characters they give us toys for.

They want you to buy the 2005 set. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif)

I thought Recordicons was cute, and the art was well done.

Cute and machines don't mix. Those of you who think Transformers needs lightening up obviously haven't been watching Transformers shows for the last 15 years.

Not unfair, given the current trend, but those are actually sold out now (or, at least, the box sets are, and they still insist that only box set owners can get the loose set).

I really like SG Steeljaw's colors. I want a figure of that (but one that's a little more 3-D than the current one). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif)

Many people would beg to differ with you on that first point. As for the latter, nah, we've just been reading the doom and gloom humorless TF comics instead.

And, I don't mind seeing the Combaticons, as they've been interesting so far. Dion got plenty of screen time in the Flames prose story too, so it's not like he's missing out.

As much as I enjoy the prose stories, they really are secondary to the comic, and I can't stress that we only get 6 pages every 2 months enough. They really need to maximize that limited space, and focusing on non-toy (or, non-club-toy) characters really just isn't cutting it.

I don't consider the prose stories secondary to the comics at all, actually. Especially since in past years the prose has been much better than the year's comic, IMHO. (I've still enjoyed the comics, mind, it's just that the prose is better.)

And personally, I think the Combaticons angle has been very interesting. I'd rather that the club spend their time following dramatic plot points and how a storyline should naturally go than trying to artificially shoehorn in a character that's still had an ample amount of screentime. (I mean, I like Dion, but there's still 12 more pages to go for him to be in, and he's the resident rookie kid and thus not the type of character suited to having a story revolve around him anyway. He doesn't have to be in every single page.)

As far as I'm concerned, it's the Club's job to tell me some good stories. And also as far as I'm concerned, they've been definitely "cutting it" in that regard!

Every single page? Probably not, but I'm already upset at how little the past few years' worth of club membership figures have been featured, and this trend seems not to be improving at all. I certainly don't not like seeing an entire issue (two months!) go by without any appearance at all.

EDIT/FURTHER THOUGHTS: By the end of the Nexus Prime arc, we'd finally gotten to know Skyfall pretty well, and Landquake did okay. We did get to know Heatwave moderately well through the prose stories, if barely at all in the comic. We never did get to know Breakaway nor Topspin to any meaningful degree, to say nothing of Nexus Prime himself.
