I was looking through my figures and the different lines that they have come from and I noticed more Autobots have been made than Decepticons. The Human Alliance line gives us two figures, Icepick and Dragstrip, three if you include the Soundwave that the United States won't see. Reveal the Shield gives us five; Megatron, Starscream, Chopsaw, Cyclonus, and Lugnut. So far from Transformers Prime we have one deluxe size Decepticon and one Voyager size Decepticon. Is this a new development? Has it always been like this even with the original figures?

You mean three deluxe size Decepticons.

Unless you aren't counting FE.

If we're counting all of TFP, including all FE molds, isn't it 4 deluxe 'Con molds so far?

Starscream
Megatron
Eradivehicon v1.0
Soundwave

with Eradivehicon v2.0 coming next?

Of course, you could possibly count Terrorcon CJ, too, though it'd be a bit pointless.

Should we be shocked by this? I mean, most toy companies are probably of the mind that the heroic characters will be the most popular with the kids, due to being, well, good guys.

Then again, what do I know?

The Generations toys aimed for 2012 release include 6 Decepticons (Combaticons and Shockwave) and 2 Autobots (Optimus and Jazz). That should even things out.

Well, it also makes more sense from a storytelling perspective too.

Even if the cons start off outnumbering the autobots with a superior military force. And sheer numbers.
Given to the fact that the Autobots have the better philosophy. There should be more Autobots than Decepticons over time.

IIRC, the 2007 movie line had more Decepticon molds than Autobot ones, but I'm not really sure if that applied to the ROTF toy line.

If a kid can only get one toy, he's going to want the hero. If he can get two, maybe a villain to fight. If he can get three, probably another hero. This is why there's always been more heroes than villains in the line, and a lot of shelfwarmers tend to be villains.

This is more noticeable the larger the size class, which makes sense, as it's more likely a kid will only get one Human Alliance, or Leader class, and so they'd obviously want the Good Guy, which is why the larger the figures, the less of them are villains.
