Universe/Classics Octane is a fairly big failure in all modes. Much like Galvatron, it just needed to be bigger for the design to work properly. I don't think it's a case of the triple changer gimmick getting in the way, as Astrotrain doesn't really bother me as a deluxe.

Classics Pretenders -- Simplified, bad alt modes, small, Bumblebee has Cliffjumper's head.

PM Optimus Prime is arguably worse than the original -- no die-cast (originally), 'bubbly' looking cab robot with less 'sharp' detail, weird unnecessary 'backwards' cab transformation, weird arms-in-the-air base, trailer lacks cohesiveness. But... it did combine, so depending on how much you value that mode, it may not be 'worse' overall.

A lot of the new mold Robot Masters. I don't own any, but judging by what I've seen online, a lot of these were downgrades from the original toys, especially the Beast Wars ones. Convoy is awful too. The seeker mold was an improvement, but still not great.

All the Beast Machines toys that are updates of Beast Wars characters were worse than the originals. I don't think there are any exceptions...

Transmetal 2 Cheetor and Transmetal 2 Dinobot.

At the time, I thought TM Optimus Primal and TM Megatron were downgrades, as they were smaller and barely resembled their previous selves. Eventually, I came to appreciate them (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif)

Cybertron Unicron. Hard to one-up a toy that is 90% homage to a fan favorite character with a toy that takes a lot more liberties and is a lot smaller.

Energon Hotshot. Yuck.

All the G2 "Classics" Go-Bots.

G2 Power Master Ironhide. So very bad....

ROTF Voyager Starscream. An ugly mess--ugly tattoos, ugly arms, ugly everything. I'll take the first Voyager Starscream over this piece of crap any day...

My only gripe about PMOP is his legs and feet theres simply alot of wasted plastic there for some great details to be added even if it was only stickers used.. and the weak trailer hitch
TM2 Cheetor I give you but TM2 Dinobot is a really nice sculpt

Energon Hotshot is yuck
But Cyb one and the red recolor are pure win lest we not forget the over powered CDF Hotshot

G2 Power Master Ironhide----I have no idea who that is

I'd call Supreme Air Attack Optimus Primal an upgrade. Ain't no other Optimus Primal tells me where the seeds of the future are to be found laying. (Although I do know this toy was only released in RiD, not Beast Machines proper.) I also think Night Attack Cheetor is a BIG improvement over not just his Beast Machines toys but ALL his Beast Wars toys too.

BM Blackarachnia is a much better toy than the TM2. At least she can actually stand up under her own power without having to fiddle with balancing her backpack for half an hour.

Well, sure. But it's perhaps no better than the Binaltech version, and arguably worse.

Thank you (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif)

Or PRID Bumblebee compared to FE Bumblebee?

Going back to G1, what about Goldbug? The original Bumblebee was better.

Transmetal II Cheetor wasn't nearly as good as Transmetal Cheetor.

I would also say that Optimus Primal got progressively worse for several toys in a row; Ultra, Transmetal, Optimal, BM Deluxe.

I'd call it a lateral move. The original Bumblebee has some serious problems -- especially with being delicate and not standing up to play wear very well. Bumblebees with heads that won't stay up are a very common problem. Goldbug definitely has a less engaging transformation -- but he's WAY more robust and his extra gimmick is SERIOUS fun. I played with Goldbug *WAY* more than with Bumblebee when I was a kid.

I played with Bumblebee more, because while you could take Goldbug's car-trunk-hoodie off for battle damage, you could easily take off Bumblebee's feet and legs.

Battle damage potential was a big deal to me when I was a kid.

I like the G1 vehicle modes better for most CHUGs, etc. I much prefer toys that are a pretty good match for actual vehicles rather than lawyer-safe, made-up vehicles (even though I understand the need for them). I like classic vehicles better than modern ones for the most part, anyway. You'd never see me buying the new Fairlady Z.

Plus there are characters who had their very own mold in G1/G2 but are just a repaint/remold in the modern era (even if the newer toy has better engineering). I understand the need for this as well, but I'm not going to start selling off my G1 collection after getting each "upgrade".

Guido has managed to not only redeem the Classic Pretender Legends figures, but make me actively miss the ones I had.
