John de Lancie made an announcement at Ottawa Comiccon today that he was making a documentary about My Little Pony fans.
http://ponyvillegazette.com/2012/05/13/joh...ttle-pony-fans/ He made a lot of favourable comment about the fan community throughout his panel. -------------------- |

Once he goes through Bronycon, his comments will probably become a lot less favourable~

I doubt it. He's no stranger to fandoms. He probably has a pretty good idea what to expect.

I have yet to see a fandom of anything that's pleasable. If you're part of the creation process in any kind of manner and you meet a fan, be prepared to be ripped a new one.

All fandoms have good and bad points. If you choose to dwell on the bad, then its all bad. I think that so long as john stays away from the rule 34 crowd, it'll be pretty good.

This is one of the more pleasable fandoms I've been in. Seriously guys, we're spoiled.

Yeah, in absolute terms pony fandom is pretty tame. It's just that the base level of the material is so innocent that any perversion or ultraviolence looks REALLY bad in a relative sense.

Tara Strong found out about that stuff, and it didn't scare her off.

I have yet to see a fandom that's not primarily composed of pleasant people. I don't really understand where this kind of attitude is coming from. Do you ever go to conventions or do you just search "<topic> rule 34" and assume everyone is like the worst of them? -------------------- |

Do you ever go to conventions or do you just search "<topic> rule 34" and assume everyone is like the worst of them? Well, in all honesty, the pony fandom does seem to be the most pleasable so far. And no, I haven't been to conventions. But I have been on Message boards, and most fandoms I've seen are rather unpleasable: Star Trek, Thundercats, any and every message board at gamefaqs...and don't even get me started on Transformer fans right here on the Allspark...half the reason I mostly keep to general discussion nowadays. BTW...rule 34? What does there being porn of it have to do with unpleasable fan base? Edit #2 Ooooooh...that's what you guys are talking about...think I'll bow out now. *runs* This post has been edited by Caldwin: May 14 2012, 06:57 AM -------------------- |

I don't have a problem against fans. Hell, i'm a fan myself...of many different franchises. And I'm not even saying all fans are bungholes.
It's just that it seems to me that he bungholes are usually the most vocal and (admittedly not having gone to conventions myself) I'm surprised they aren't the ones creators get bombarded with. And, unfortunatly, there have been times I've been soured on something I was actually enjoying up to the point where some bunghole(s) bitching just totally ruined it for me. I hate bungholes. -------------------- |

If you thought TF fans were bitchy, check out Thundercats.org. Sweet Primus! One would think fans of a show that had pretty much no continuation for 25 years would be glad there is a new toon, but the place is full of trolls whining about how Michael Jelenic "Ruined Thundercats Forever" because they shipped Cheetara with Tygra and not Lion-O! There are other nitpickings too, but it all boils down to this, really. And that Cheetara should be paired with Lion-O comes from the original show that basically had no romantic subplots at all...
I guess they are not used to change like us, since TFs had a gazillion reboots in comics and cartoons already. John de Lancie made an announcement at Ottawa Comiccon today that he was making a documentary about My Little Pony fans. http://ponyvillegazette.com/2012/05/13/joh...ttle-pony-fans/ He made a lot of favourable comment about the fan community throughout his panel. MUST SEE! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-hotrod.gif) I love the guy. Very good actor, and he is very much into his roles and the series he appears in. It'd be funny if he did the documentary as Discord... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-fire.gif) Yeah, in absolute terms pony fandom is pretty tame. It's just that the base level of the material is so innocent that any perversion or ultraviolence looks REALLY bad in a relative sense. ---Dave Agreed. I don't mind rule34 of characters who are already drawn to be sexy to begin with, but... ponies? That show is just so innocent, it feels like a crime to turn it into such stuff. Yikes. I remember the Sonic fandom. Take my advice: don't be diplomatic with them. You will find no allies. You must be firmly in one camp or another. Neutrality is not tolerated.
This is one of the tamest fandoms I've ever seen. There's a reason so many of the creators are willing to interact with us and occasionally stand up for us. They are well-liked and get a primarily positive response from us. We appreciate the work they do. That makes it a lot easier to want to please us. -------------------- You're turning into the real-life version of that little devil that hovers over people's shoulders and tells them to do horrible things. Yeah... I saw the sonic fandom when the internet became common for me. At that point, I was collecting the games and comics, and an avid fan of the series. Hell, I even kinda like sonic underground.
I... I just couldn't. But then, I never got the hate in any fandom. We're all here for the same basic thing, why fight over the details? Fine, you don't like "element X", can you please get over it and enjoy the other 25 letters in the alphabet already? -------------------- |
