With the game being released in two more weeks, I thought I'd start up a thread to discuss this highly-anticipated sequel.
I am geting this game since I like the first game and I want to see the sequel. The multiplayer modes sound like fun. -------------------- Leader of the Littlest AllSpark, a faction worshipping everything Zoe Trent (and Pepper Clark and all the other Littlest Pet Shop pets.) Part of me says, Do we really need to take another trip back to Rapture? I mean everything sewed up at the end and i really wasnt left with that many questions that needed to be answered.
Then the other part of me rationalizes it by saying: You can run around and set people on fire, plus your now a Big Daddy. I cant wait to check it out, but i can do without the multiplayer mode. Personally it just sounds like a tacked on afterthought, sort of like what Resident Evil 5 tried. I really dont see the point mostly because Bioshock doesn't seem like the type of game that needs more than one person playing. -------------------- |

Rapture's a big city, and it's been a warzone for several years. I have no problem with multiplayer splicer battles.

Yeah, but you have to admit - having the Multiplayer mode have an actual narrative to it, and being set during the Civil War between Ryan and Fontaine's forces is actually a neat move. -------------------- Nobody knows what we're for only what we're against when we judge the wounded

That's why I'm only cautiously interested at best and not highly looking forward to it. Bioshock didn't need a sequel, thematically it was a complete package. The new game will be an improvement on the gameplay, but I think it will be lacking in story and message. -------------------- |

Bioshock itself already had stuff beyond an excellent ending. I'm not convinced it should get a sequel.

I agree, Bioshock wrapped things up nicely, but I'm still interested in a return to Rapture. being 10 years later, it at least leaves the events of the first Bioshock still wrapped up, making its own story, which helps. The return of Andrew or Jack Ryan would have felt forced and like an unnecessary sequel, but making the story one about a Big Daddy gives it, at least, a different, and possibly interesting, perspective.
I also don't anticipate much use for the multiplayer. |

But isn't the universe full and rich enough to deserve more content? Okay, how about not a sequel, but just another game. I mean, the city itself is huge, there's no way we covered every inch in the first one, surely there's other stories to be told from rapture. We know the soviets and the CIA we're after ryan's secrets, we know that just about everyone had their own machinations and agenda's. One such effort lead to the first game, why can't there be more?
I mean, if we can get Fallout: New Vegas which doesn't actively infringe on fallout 3, why can't we have "Bioshock: Tales from the bottom of the sea"? -------------------- |

That is true, but they could do just like halo and expand the universe through other mediums. Bioshock seems like the type of game that would work great in a novel, and it would be a way to expand see different perspectives without there needing to be another game involved. Dont get me wrong tho, i welcome the new game, but i realize its going to be another silent protagonist wondering Rapture on the wishes of another character -------------------- |

I'm very excited abut this. But we also have a thread about it already.
I could definitely use another trip to Rapture. The place had only been going to hell for a few months when Jack arrives in the first game. Just imagine how bad things have gotten after a decade of insanity and ADAM abuse! Someone has to have come along and established some kind of order to keep the city alive and I'm looking forward to finding out who and how. |

I thought it was closer to a year, what with the "Happy 1959" banners in the club near the start. -------------------- Nobody knows what we're for only what we're against when we judge the wounded

A decade of warfare... nothing would last that long, especially nothing as complex as a city, it would be broken and flooded. Atlas was right, a little over a year on and rapture was the world fastest growing junk pile. After a decade, I can't imagine what it would be like in a "realistic" state of decay. I mean, I know its going to be worse down there, especially with the power being off and all, but as bad as they make it, it will never be as bad as it should be.

Well, as we saw in BioShock, not everyone had gone stark raving mad. Presumably, there are pockets of individuals still eeking out an existence and maintaining things to the best of their ability.
Indeed, HIGHLIGHT to view: considering "Something From the Sea" mentions Rapture is actively recruiting again, it seems the city's managed to turn itself around...so to speak. -------------------- Nobody knows what we're for only what we're against when we judge the wounded

Which, I suppose, makes sense. I wonder why we didn't run into those people while playing though? Surely one man rampaging around killing big daddies and splicers left, right and center, would attact the attention of any sane survivor groups.
Yeah, you guys read the wiki for the original game? Apparently, Take 2 sees this as a franchise akin to GTA, and hopes to put out a new game every two or three years, with the potential for five sequels. Which, kinda cool. -------------------- |

Keep in mind, we were only shown a small portion of the city - and generally, what we saw was what remained of Andrew Ryan's empire. Generally, everything in the first BioShock was contained to a handful of areas that were still under Ryan or Atlas' direct control. Given Ryan also had Steinman and that psychotic Artist under his command, is it really any wonder only Splicers were crazy enough to roam freely? -------------------- Nobody knows what we're for only what we're against when we judge the wounded
