Dake's right.

But its as close as you're going to get to the real deal outside of the Japanese re-issue or a very expensive mint original.

i am curious why the helmet's face is blue......the short stacks and long missles says reissue, but wasn't the only version of ultra magnus with the unpainted helmet face the release in 1987 (or whenever that version came out)

Im not sure how to help in that matter exactly lol, but i can tell you i opened the box and thats what he came with. Unless the seller had removed him and replaced certain items before shipping it. But I cannot even be certain that it was bought online.

The blue looks quite dark in the pic, Ultra Magnus is usually a lighter blue.

Looks like what we have here is either:

a) A US reissue with the 1987 "cost cutting" head (it's not the 1987 version because it seems to have rubber tires).

b) An original with the 1987 head and the reissue cab and weapons.

c) A reissue with a manufacturing error of the head not being painted.

I think it's an error, because even the cost cutting head had the face painted, and it was the antennae that were neglected, at least according to TFU

C is kind of hard to believe, isn't it?

But since it was sealed when he got it, A and B both mean that the seller completed it himself and then sealed it to pass it off as MISB. Between A and B, I'd lean toward A. The explanation would be that someone picked it up in the store to sell it online for a little profit and then realized it was an opportunity to upgrade his half-paint head to a fully-painted head.

This all reminded me to share a picture of my latest fake variant. I had a white chestplate custom made to match the Ultra Magnus seen on all of his packaging. And, incidentally, I usually keep this Magnus with an unpainted head and switching it for this picture helped me discover another real variant on the Magnus heads. Some of them have extra tabs of plastic on the sides of the inside to grip the little head and some don't. I have full, half, and no paint without them and I have full and no pant with. I wonder if there is a half-paint with them.

Doesn't seem to match anything at Fred's Workshop, either.

http://www.geocities.com/futuristgroup/vmagnus.html

I'm leaning towards c) A reissue with a manufacturing error of the head not being painted

Or:

d) this is actually the painted-version head with the paint removed from the face, for whatever reason, by the original owner.

e) it's the cheapo head and the original owner decided to paint the antennae.

f) it's a repro head...or...who knows?

I can't believe I didn't notice that. Yes, this is a Magnus head that has never been identified before. Can everyone with a reissue Ultra Magnus go check?

Edit - Fred says the reissue has head-type 6, which is one of the unpainted ones. Is that a typo? Yes, it is a typo.

It's not like pieces don't slip through without all their paint apps. My Titanium Thundercracker is missing the red paint on one of his tail fin halves.

I may be reading something wrong, but the one I got as a kid, fresh out of the box off the shelves, had a non-painted Magnus head, and a non-painted cab head.
