So I've been trying to track down all the harder to find media now that I have a few bucks saved in the old Paypal account, and I've come across a number of these listings on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DVD-TRANSFORMERS-R...=item3a70ec8822

Most all of them are from Malaysia and wreak of KO even though the auctions swear they aren't bootlegs. However they are definitely not the Maximum Entertainment UK DVDs (which incidentally are absolutely NOWHERE to be found anywhere.) Does anyone have any experience or knowledge in what these are? RiD and Armada are some of the last series I don't own, short of old VHS recordings. And with those I don't even have a full RiD because of September 11th. The Armada sets are going for an arm and a leg, even used.

Yeah it's odd. The entire series has been released twice on DVD in the UK and used to be everywhere, but the DVDs are going for silly money nowadays!

Maybe McFeely has some more insight.
To this day I have yet to see episode 2 of RiD!

When I tried to grab the UK ones off amazon.uk about a year ago I got a message from amazon "sorry these are out of print and we cannot obtain them" despite having a listing. haven't had much luck since then either (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-screamer.gif)

Well, the Maximum ones are whatever the DVD equivalent of "out of print" is these days and have been for a while, so it comes as no surprise that they're going for big money when a large like the US doesn't have the show available domestically. I think a lot of Americans got wise and imported it!

So do you have any idea where these Malaysian KOs are coming from?

I have that DVD, and it indeed has all episodes from RID.
I have to say that it is a KO, which is usually burned from the original source, or a collection of downloaded files from the internet. They play well on most DVD players, but don't expect any bonus content.

Do the discs glass mastered, and do they have any art on them?
How is the overall quality for a KO? Are they on par with say, the Disney 90's X-Men DVDs?
For 25 bucks it might be worth it, considering there's nary a Maximum Entertainment auction on ebay.

Do the episodes look DVD quality? I've also wondered about that set from time to time.

I bought a set off of iOffer a few years ago that is a rip of the UK release with the extra's intact. They weren't much though, mostly just the japanese Car Robots toy commercials. The set ran me less than $20 and it's great quality.

I'd still snap up an offical release in a second!

Those actually weren't extras on the UK set, so that's something different.

Really?

Oh well, they're still cool to have, and they're still dvd quality. They're not just episodes copied off of tv.

Care to post a picture of the cover so we know what one to be looking for?

Sure.

I think these were ripped from the first UK release which was supposed to have had some minor special features. The following release had none.

I just checked and I was mistaken. I paid $25 for this set, but I actually paid extra because I wanted a dvd case and accompanying artwork which was extra.

I found some on iOffer from a different seller here. Might be worth checking out.

Well, that cover artwork is definitely lifted from the second UK release of the series. As far as extras went, the UK just had character profiles.

Thanks Shockwave...I checked out the listing and looks like it is in PAL...does that mean the DVD won't play right for Americans? Not too familiar with how that works when it comes to DVD's.

Thread necromancy!
One more question for McFeely (or any UK allsparkers): will the official set work in american DVD players, or a PS3?
This set: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Image:RiD_Box_Set_1.jpg

Any help would be great!
