(This is going to make me sound so stupid. If you don't like reading utter stupidity, this isn't the thread for you. XD)

Yesterday, I saw an episode of Prime. I had missed some of it, though. I normally like watching shows on Youtube, because I have Episode OCD, and I can't stand it if I don't see the episodes in chronilogical order. I needed to kill some time, so I watched it anyway. XD It was about Arcee facing who I thought was Black Arachnia, but Arcee kept calling her Arachnid. Was she Black Arachnia or not? Was 'Arachnid' just a nickname? Or is Black Arachnia's name actualy Black Arachnid?

Airachnid is a completely different character from Blackarachnia.

To clarify, Blackarachnia is generally portrayed as an unwilling "defector" to the bad guys. Generally they're forced by circumstances, and as they develop they seek to change those circumstances, in Beast Wars by going Maximal, in Animated by trying to cure herself at all costs. In both cases there's an air of "redeemability" about her, later in Beast Wars but earlier in Animated.

Airachnid is a to-the-spark psychotic serial murderer who's been responsible for repeated acts of genocide, torture, violence and murder. She isn't redeemable, she's flat out evil and enjoys every moment of it. She joined the Decepticons not because she was particularly forced, but because they presented the best opportunities for violence, terror, and torture, all of which are things she enjoys and is very good at (same reasons the Autobots wouldn't go near her).

This is Airachnid, she's a different character from Black Arachnia.

Different shows, different continuity.

Think of it this way, if it helps: Prime Arachnid transforms into a helicopter, so she's an "Air" achnid.
While Black Arachnia is a Ar "cat" nia, because like Catwoman from Batman the Animated series, deep down, her heart's in the right place.

That doesn't make any sense since there's no "cat" sound in Black-a-rach-ni-a.

Well I probably am a bit racist towards Spiders, since I have Arachnaphobia. XD

Well, she did join Megatron under a bit of duress. Arcee destroyed her ship and she found herself stuck either fending off both Autobots AND Decepticons or falling back in with the bad guys.

Her reluctance to join up isn't due to a clashing of personalities much, mind you.

It's more because she's not a fan of being saddled with the limits of a command structure.

Yeah, let's not forget that prior to Arcee destroying her ship, she was just out cruising the galaxy committing genocide as a hobby.

She's never had a good-girl side to her, just varying degrees of disrespect for authority.

I meant initially, as in before Earth. She was a Decepticon, but by the time of "Predatory" had obviously dropped that. She was forced (somewhat) to play along with the Decepticons on Earth, but it's fairly obvious (given her actions when Megatron was missing in Unicron) she's just waiting for her opportunity to get out, and it appears that she's going to in the next episode. Or at least try.

Airachnid has done very well to distinguish herself from Blackaracnia. Air's no a schemer, she's a sadistic killer. BA was more of a fem fatalle, seducer schemer ninja girl.

The traits they share are: Spider motif, hints of seduction, and an untrusting/distant attitude to their compatriots.

It's only because of animated's color scheme that the two look much alike.
BW BA is Black w/ Gold (or Magenta with Green)
Air's Insecticon Black and Purple with gold trim.

Vulpy, in matters of continuity -it is best to assume any character with the same-or slightly similar visual characteristics -are in fact New characters or Different versions of a character.

G1 Applejack vs Fim Applejack for example

Eh, at a very shallow level, she fills basically the same spot Blackarachnia filled previously: Decepticon/Predacon defector, part-spider, female. I don't think a Blackarachnia could exist in the Prime universe, so to me, Airachnid is basically Prime Blackarachnia. No, the analog isn't perfect--but the same could be said of all the other Prime characters that take liberties with the previously established characters.

analog ..I do not think the word means what you think it means.

Harry Potter, Frodo, and Luke Skywalker are analogous

Airachnid and Blackarachnia are about the same as Prime Wheeljack is to Armada Wheeljack

the beast BA and Animated BA are analogous... because despite their differences they fit the same archetype

"redeamable damaged Female"

Bw Blackarachnia is Catwoman
An Blackarachnia is Harley Quinn
Airachnid is Poison Ivy

I explained in my post how they are analogous. I also said the analogy was not perfect. Your reply doesn't really add to or take away from anything I was saying..
