As for streaming options, one could download jptv, if I could find a link to it. Animated had a simulcast with TV Tokyo, so you can probably watch it on that channel.

Aaand the intro's a clip show. Saw that coming. Man, but the footage used does not fit this song.
Oh Lord, Cliffjumper sings about how great he is. Hah. "Ore wa Cliffjumpah~" Hah! Instead of "You want the horns? You got 'em." it's "ARMS UP!" In fact, every Autobot says that when they deploy their weapons. That and "TRANSFORM!" of course. Well that's clever time editing. They cut out the stuff between Starscream's strike and Cliffjumper falling. There's lots of little edits, but they're really seamless. Starscream's voice is flamboyant as HELL. At the very least, it definitely leaves an impression. And the commercial bumper's a CGI turnaround of Optimus and Arcee in vehicle and robot mode with the G1 theme as a jingle. The Vehicons have slightly more lines, including 'Transform!' Bumblebee's the same as he ever was. Arcee's catchphrase seems to be 'saiyaku', whatever that means. The bit with the idol group's as akward as I thought it would be. It's slightly less annoying than the Otobotto family though. And the arms Microns are very low budget CGI. It's O.P, B2, and R.A. They're floating in weapon mode the whole time. They try transforming and...to be continued? I'm getting a bit of a Zako Zako hour vibe from it. And instead of a 'next time' bit, they put clips of the next episode into the credits. And that's it! QUOTE Arcee's catchphrase seems to be 'saiyaku', whatever that means. "You're the worst!" or "the worst!" or something like that. It's got a literal meaning of disaster or bad things happening, but most of the time when teenage girls use it, it's because they're pissed off. What's this "idol group" thing? I think I missed any past info about that.

What's this "idol group" thing? I think I missed any past info about that. Tokyo Girls' Style, a group of idols, are doing a little segment and stuff. -------------------- Zi gong, a disciple of Confucius, asked: "Is there any one word that could guide a person throughout life?" I actually didn't mind the Otoboto Family from Animated. I mean, I hated that they cost the show 3 minutes of content per episode, but the segments themselves were neat, particularly the way it focused on the age of the Transformers franchise and the two generations coming together with their own incarnations of the brand. It was cute for what it was, if not particularly thrilling or hilarious.
These idol segments, though.... Huh. First I've heard of them. I'm morbidly curious. And they didn't reuse any of the animation used specifically for the US title sequence in the Japanese version? That seems kind of wasteful; despite being super short, the title sequence has some sweet visuals in it. EDIT: Looking at the Aichi website and the idol stuff... That's just kind of a strange tie-in for a young boys toyline; an all-girl pop group. I mean, culturally, are young Japanese boys really, really into idol girl music, right now, so it makes sense to associate the brand with that kind of thing? It just seems really random and, I dunno, definitely not something we'd see in the states; usually we try not to associate anything potentially "girly" with a young boys line so as not to send the wrong message about the line's "masculinity". They use some really brief bits from the intro.
And here's the ending. The idol group skit is a lot briefer than the Otobotto family's was, due to making room for the Arms Micron theater. So it's not...quite as bad, I guess? Disappointing compared to the awesomeness that was Animated's Japanese intro.
Not that I was expecting burning justice and mysterious cloaked figures, but I feel like there's a dissonance between the audio and the imagery. Appropriate for a dub, I guess. Saa, All I Can Do! That was a really nice mellow intro. I like it.

Doesn't really fit the source material though. At all.

Doesn't really fit the source material though. At all. I don't really care about that, as long as it sounds nice. -------------------- Zi gong, a disciple of Confucius, asked: "Is there any one word that could guide a person throughout life?" That's actually pretty groovy. I like the end titles too.

As mentioned, there were some little additions here and there.
Compared to Animated, it's much more loyal to the source material. It seemed like Cliffjumper's fight was edited down a little bit. I had heard that series might be edited for violence. I haven't compared the timing to the original yet. The voices in general are very fitting, though. I'd describe SS as flamboyant, but not much more so than the original. He seems to be based after the JP G1 Starscream voice (at least, that was the general reaction to it). Arcee's "saiaku!" is kind of like "Oh, GREAT!" They call "Transform" when they TF, and "Arms Up" when deploying weapons. It didn't seem to replace other lines, though. Cliffjumper did have his little line about his horns. The idol segment has a bunch of girls who know nothing about TF being educated on them by Vector Sigma. Although I suppose it was low budget, I thought the Micron segment was pretty funny (and thankfully short enough that it doesn't shave airtime down.) They all try to transform by wiggling around... and it ends before they manage to. Pretty much fits what I had heard thus far about the dubbing. I'll probably enjoy watching the series play out in Japanese. -Hydra -------------------- |
