I thought at Botcon they said the repaints of Wheeljack and Soundwave in DOTM will be in the RiD line

Oh, well, that's fine then.

Also, what does this mean for the DOTM tail-end deluxes, and the Movie Trilogy waves?

... suddenly I'm very worried for the G1 Homage DotM Wheeljack...

I tried to be all "calm down guys, everything is fine" but I'm better at "ZOMG we're all gonna DIE"

Macroecinomically, margins are getting really tight, and Hasbro may not be as willing to take even minor risks. Sadly, I think we'll see more of this sort of thing happening, not less.

BBTS responded to my followup and said that the new preorders would just be RID toys...which comes as no surprise since the preorders are up now.

Yep, just got the email notification. Time to clear those Hasbro Prime preorders out of there, I'll just buy anything I want from that from brick and mortar.

Yup, just received this:

"Hi - Hasbro has informed us that they have cancelled the 'First Edition' releases of Transformers Prime.

Your preorder for: First Edition Cliffjumper
will be converted to: TF Prime Robots in Disguise Cliffjumper
The price remains the same as ordered. .

Feel free to cancel or adjust the updated preorder however you would like, we apologize for the inconvenience of the cancelled product."

I'll cancel, thanks!
Definitely a goat-blower.

Same here...what a disappointment. I mean, I knew the cancellations were inevitable, but now that it's actually happening...sigh.

...so, I got the same e-mail, but only regarding the Deluxe 1.5 wave, which the e-mail claims has been 'converted' to RiD Wave 1.

Except my preorder still lists FE wave 1.5.

And the e-mail doesn't mention the Voyager or Entertainment pack, and they're still in my preorders.

"The old preorder price was $59.99 , the new preorder price is $64.99 due to a price increase, but we will honor previous price and fill the order at $59.99"

And no....I don't want a "discount" on toys I can /still/ get cheaper at any store in the area. I want a discount on the Takara versions of the toys I preordered, dude. Jeez.

Got the Voyagers e-mail:

QUOTE

Your preorder for: First Edition Voyager Set of 2 (Optimus & Bulkhead)
will be converted to: Robots in Disguise Voyager Set of 2 (Optimus & Megatron)

The old preorder price was $59.99. The new preorder price is $45.99.

Feel free to cancel or adjust the updated preorder however you would like, we apologize for the inconvenience of the cancelled product.

Thanks

I wonder what they'll convert the Prime vs. Megatron Entertainment Pack into...the one with Starscream and Bumblebee?

While none of this is really BBTS's fault...I wish they would have done something like ShinRa mentioned above...maybe first crack at the preorders for the Takara versions and/or a discount? Perhaps they could have held back some of those Takara preorders in reserve for the folks that preordered the Hasbro versions...

Oh well...

Got my e-mail for the Voyagers and Deluxes and promptly deleted the orders. If I can't have the superior FE figs then I have absolutely no need for the RID ones because I just won't bother with the line now. If I can find the FE figs I want for a DECENT price, then I'll start buying RID.

So, was Zombie Cliffjumper part of the first edition waves or is it part of the RiD line?

Thing is, we here in Canada have allegedly gotten the whole PFE line, but I have never seen Zombie Cliff or the Vehicon at retail.

I don't like the automatic substitution that they're doing. I know they're trying to make it easy for customers, making the assumption that people want the characters rather than the specific toys. But as evidenced by the replies in this thread, people don't. They'd rather have nothing.

Woe be onto those that miss this email and think that their FE pre-orders are proceeding as planned. Until they get a box full of TF Prime RiD figures.

They advertise as being the exclusive carrier for a line, they better damn well have a lock on the line before touting it.

For exclusives, it makes sense to order. For the first wave of a regular line, it doesn't, as stores will be full of them within two months, at lower prices.

I can kind of see it both ways. Yeah, it's kind of sketchy because they're not the same toys, or even the same characters in all cases, but this also lets people who preordered awhile back "keep their spot in line" just in case the demand is high.

And yeah, I cancelled mine. Too bad there aren't more Takara 1st Editions to go around. Going to keep an eye on that Voyager Optimus Prime listing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon-op.gif)
