Excellent work, Walky!
By the way, everyone - since my original post, more Jose Delbo artwork has gone up on Heritage Auctions. The pages are less Transformer-heavy than the original one I tossed up, but here they are anywho: http://obscuretf.com/Jose%20Delbo%20Transf...2042%20Page.jpg http://obscuretf.com/Jose%20Delbo%20Transf...0Pages%2001.jpg http://obscuretf.com/Jose%20Delbo%20Transf...048%20Pages.jpg The inking on that Starscream/Ratbat panel is surprisingly good - oh, ah-ha. "The Flames of Boltax" was inked by Danny Bulanadi, not Dave Hunt. That would explain it. -------------------- ![]() |

Yeah, I love to see the old Marvel comics recolored properly. It makes me want whole comics recolored. I'd buy them. I think I may even say that Delbo's art colored like this is preferable to the modern IDW comics.
I just compared the actual comic panel to Walky's recolor. Its amazing how the details that get overlooked in the original stand out much more. Before, I just read the text in that panel and moved on, now there are things to look at and take in. This post has been edited by Bass X0: Feb 24 2011, 06:29 PM |

Yeah these really make me wish I had ANY skill as a colorist. If I did I would totally recolor all these myself. I too wish IDW would recolor the whole series like this. I have every issue already and I'd buy that in a second.

ZacWilliam, le sigh... pretty sure its been brought up to IDW before! and its not that they're against the idea [they've re-colored a LOT of classic Doctor Who comics for instance] its just finding the B&W art to do it! which is pretty rare/difficult i gather -------------------- |

I had time to do the first panel. Well, okay, I didn't, but I did it anyway. (IMG:http://www.shortpacked.com/images/transformers/targetmasterintroductions.jpg) Yeah that looks awesome! Randy -------------------- ![]() |

I know something like this was done to allow The Killing Joke to be recoloured. --Andrew S. -------------------- |

Yeah there are a few ways that I can think of. This is just a quick Posterize -> Copy paste the lines to a new layer.
(IMG:http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/1989/waysm.th.jpg) Uploaded with ImageShack.us But ultimately you probably need to use all tricks (like a threshold to get the lines deep in darkness) and some restoration to get the best quality lineart. Now I didn't check how well this worked with a high res scan of a flats colored oldschool book. In the end I guess it depends if its worth the cost to the publisher. -------------------- |

Now those are some cool pages! Tha "Boat Max" page was always memorable for me because he pretty much never TFed in the comic. And the rest have a great line-up of Comic major characters of the time.
Quick, someone kidnap Walky and get him to color in these too! ZacWilliam, who else around here colors well? We need a longer list of folks to kidnap and force to do art! -------------------- Ever wonder about the speed of Turbofoxes?

[they were even leary about even just re-printing the old stuff as well IIRC] IDW's still a business and I think i'd agree with the call. I dont think the pay off would be substantial enough to warrant such a project, unfortunately and if anyones interested i'll color one or part of these and livestream it! might be kinda neat even if you dont make it to watch it live it'll still be up on my livestream page and you can watch it after the fact. i'll probably only have the time from around 3-5 AM PST so i dont expect many people to make that lol but still! Woot! I loved this version of Pointblank's head, with the Blurr-like crest on the helmet. His Max looks great as well. Though if it wasn't for the internet, I'd have never guessed where Fort Max's tower goes in his robot mode (his sides), never having seen the toy as a kid.

Us digital folks have it easy. So what's his excuse for being so horrible with GIJoe while most of the other colorists on that title kept a good grip on who's who with limited block coloring, even though Joes looked even more alike than Transformers do? -------------------- QUOTE You're far too young to be this bitter and angry at the world.... ![]() |

I would have to know what you're talking about to respond to your accusations directly, but I'm pretty confident that any claim of "laziness" is really friggin' difficult to support. You don't know his schedule and you don't know the context of his work.

I'd go as far as to say "Spoken like a guy who read 20 different Marvel titles of that era and none of them looked as terrible as Yomtov's despite being used with the same tools" |
