The format is what...4-years old now? Ignoring the price of the players...Why are the disks still around TWICE the cost of their DVD counterparts? Are they that much more expensive to produce? Since there are fewer of them are they more expensive? Are content-providers and manufacturers just trying to rip us off? Is it just a collective effort to make sure the format is too expensive to actually take hold? Walk through any electronics story--nearly all new TVs are HD. People want HD content, but they just don't seem to be buying and my guess is because the disks are too god damn expensive. So why are they? What the hug is the problem?

My friend just bought a PS3 because she wanted a good Bluray player with certain features and the store was offering a special which allowed her to get the 120GB version for $200. She's not going to be using it for playing many games, so 120 gigs is more space than she will ever use. What of everyone else, though? How much hard drive space does an average gamer really need on a modern console like the 360 or PS3? Do I *need* the $350 250GB version? Aside from saving games, what is the hard drive even for? Is it worth an extra $50?

Despite Apple's restrictions, there are entirely way too many apps for the iPhone. 99% of them are complete garbage, so there must be an easy way to sort through the overwhelming number of junk applications to find the few decent ones, but the system iTunes has is awful. All the "top rated" games are either new or barely used and have a very small handful of ratings, and the "most popular" games are generally poorly rated and terrible. Same things goes for game reviewing sites like gamespot.com. I can't get any good information. How the hell can one find out what's good or not?

Real question here that I want answered. Why do most mobile devices (smartphones and pocket PCs) only play video that has been encoded to a specific format and resolution? My iPhone can view jpgs and gifs and a number of different audio formats and various bit rates, but getting it to play video always requires reencoding the entire file. Why is that? Why can't it just play everything or at least the most common video formats?

Rather than resurrecting a years dead thread, I'm creating a new one here. Post your best scores here if you're up for killing time.
