Here's IGN's link to a bunch of articles:
http://gear.ign.com/articles/107/1076623p1.html Basically, it's like PS2's Eyetoy merged with Wii Motion Plus, including the analog stick on a wireless nunchuck (called a subcontroller). Wii Motion Plus approximated 1:1, PS Move actually has it. In the hands, on, a slight lag was noticed, but I haven't seen a direct comparison to the lag with Wii Motion Plus and Natal. That'll probably be one of the huge things in the battle of the motion controllers this fall. I was actually waiting for this to happen since the Wii was announced with lower hardware specs than the other two consoles...what exactly would happen if the other guys tacked on the same controls? Interesting stuff! -------------------- |

Or the PS3 eye?
And the one game that supported it well, didn't get any support from the stores. -------------------- |

On the downside, the version that people were testing stated that it's a bit laggy in response and refresh rates, but it is lighter than a wiimote. |

I think they said something like 30 titles in development for them. And how much is just bargain priced Shovelware or just repurposed Wii games? For that matter: what's in development for it after the initial 30? It's part of the reason I get really suspect of these gimmicky peripherals if they don't come straight out of the box. You just don't know how much support these things are going to get and if they're actually going to be sticking around. -------------------- Nobody knows what we're for only what we're against when we judge the wounded

Honestly, even though all the controls the Wii provides are pretty cool, very few games actualy seem to do much with it. I think it is going to be another console generation before we really get consistent good use of the tecnnology, regardless of who has it.
But yeah, if the next xbox and playstation had default controlers with the same ablity as the wii controlers, that would go a long way I think. -------------------- What signature?

Not a fan of motion control myself I even have wii sport and resort a controler in hand has worked for 30+ years I don't see it leaveing ever Anybody else have to read this out loud? There are occasions where I did like some of the motion additions. Mostly I like being able to have a cursor in some games. Sadly it is a little sensitive depending on the distance you are from the screen. The shaking stuff... I can do with out. New Super Mario Brothers for example... you have to shake to spin jump... I've only played the demos at stores... but it seems really hard to have any sense of percision in platforming when you have to shake the whole controler. Operating some of the levers and stuff in Metroid Prime 3 was fun, but I was so close to my screen that some of it didn't work right. Conceptualy it was cool though. I think it will be some time before it is refined... but after a while I think it will be standard, just like analog sticks are now. -------------------- What signature?

If this means third parties start giving motion gaming their best then that's a good thing.
I think you'll find the best motion games thus far on Wii are first party efforts, the only decent third party games involve shooting. On he other hand I did like Web swinging in Spider-Man 3 though it was simply tapping a button and a slight shake of either the remote or nunchuk, and I like using the nunchuk for force powers in Star Wars The Force Unleashed. Wii Motion Plus feels like the real deal and should be used for weapon based games, especially The Force Unleashed 2. The downside with Move are problems picking up fast motion and pointing/aiming. -------------------- |

Looks like it might be fun to try, but I can't exactly say I'm "moved" to drop $100 for it on top of the price of a PS3.

For some games, like Wii sports/fit/resort, Carnival games, Mario and Sonic at the (winter) olympic games, they're quite good, but most of those are social games. If I'm just sitting down to play by myself, then I prefer games like Smash Bros where it's not a requirement unless it's an integral part of gameplay, like 1:1 boxing or swordfighting, maybe.

One thing you guys have to take into consideration is this:
Sony and Microsoft REALLY want their motion controls to take down the Wii. This being said, they are going to put as much effort into the games being made into them. At least I know we're doing that with the Natal game we're working on. Though, I'm sure both companies will have their share or shovelware, I'm thinking they will have a far more aggressive approval process in place. -------------------- |

So if I have a PS3 Eye, can I just get a separate PS3 wand and just use that or do you have to buy it in a bundle?

As it stands, Motion Control is not a make or break deal for most of the gamer population. -------------------- Nobody knows what we're for only what we're against when we judge the wounded

didn't ps3 already have six axis? lol He said motion control, not unbearable game breaking frustration. On Topic: The only thign that keeps me from getting a Wii is the fact that its not HD, even through component cables it still looks like garbage. Now if i can get motion control on one that has good graphics iam all for it. That said it needs to have its own games, having additional modes on current games is a start and would be sweet for certain games (god of war iam lookin at you) it needs something to justify the cost. Especially when a starter kit will probably run you 80 bucks then you have to buy an additional Pchuck to go with it, then another Pmote and Pchuck for player 2 and your lookin at like 150 buck for something that may just sit on your shelf. -------------------- |

So if I have a PS3 Eye, can I just get a separate PS3 wand and just use that or do you have to buy it in a bundle? You can get the wand seperately from the camera. I think that's going to really hamper any shot Sony might have at this thing catching on. They're already at a price disadvantage and market share disadvantage versus the Wii (and for that matter, the 360). Sony often falls into the trap of offering too many poorly-differentiated SKUs of a product, and if they do that again, they're liable to drive customers away due to confusion. And... a big glowing ball at the end? Really? Part of the reason nontraditional gamers were willing to give the Wii a shot was that it didn't look like a ridiculous toy. (Sure, you look ridiculous using it, but by that point it's already in your house and you're having fun with it.) I don't think Sony's going to draw much attention from the casual market with a physically-worse-looking, more-expensive clone of the Wii controller, and the hardcore market they're still clinging onto are already skeptical of motion control thanks to the Wii. I don't know who Sony expect to buy this thing. I'm interested to see what Microsoft (and in particular, Rare) have in store with Natal at E3. The Natal tech is different enough from the Wiimote tech that they'll have to be doing something appreciably different, rather than show up with higher-polygon-count versions of Nintendo's tech demos like Sony did. And Rare's been really quiet throughout this generation--the rumor is they've been working on stuff for Natal over the past few years. I'm not saying I think Natal is going to be a commercial success either, but I do think it'll be the more interesting and innovative of the two HD motion control platforms from a content standpoint. |
