Digital Product Placement In Transformers DVD PDF Print E-mail

Transformers DVD Product Placement Apparently over $700 million in worldwide box office and untold millions in sponsorships and licensing deals weren't quite enough--the DVD release of Transformers: The Movie has been digitally altered to insert additional product placement. During the scene where Captain Lennox speaks to his wife via webcam, what was once a generic video interface has been magically updated with a prominent Cisco Systems logo. This kind of digital product placement has been used on television and discussed in news articles, but it's surprising to see a major motion picture "transformed" between its theatrical and home-video release just to add a blatant pitch for a corporate sponsor.

Eagle-eyed Allsparker Skunkobot noticed the change after seeing the film multiple times in the theater and on DVD, and his thread has discussion and comparison images of both the theatrical and DVD versions of the scene.

He Was A Sk8r Boy? A new eBay auction has sprung to life, and it brings with it images of Transformers: The Movie Allspark Power Landmine. The images do a good job showing off the mold's details, including some that may have been missed. Most noticeable are his roller skates formed by the vehicle's rear wheels and additional small wheels under the toes!

You can see the auction and the images here

Masterpiece StarscreamMasterpiece Starscream has touched down in the US (and with a receipt picture for proof.)

TFW2005 member Signals3 picked him up at a local Walmart and snapped some pics of Starscream in both robot and jet modes. Wondering how bad the scorch marks are? Want a look at his custom "royal" flight emblem? You can check out pics of the unleashed Decepticon Air Commander in Signals3's thread on TFW2005.

Thanks to Nevermore for the news tip and you can discuss this news here on the Allspark in his thread.

Transformers Mosaic: Rain Flipping through your copy of IDW's Transformers: Devastation #2, you may have noticed a one page stand-alone story about our favorite G1 jeep, Hound. This piece kicks-off the print version of IDW's Transformers: Mosaic, a project where fans write and draw their own one-page Transformers comic! "Rain," as the piece is called, was actually one of the first comics created, which sparked IDW's interest in such an endeavor. And it's drawn and colored beautifully by our very own Kris Carter, aka Drivaaar!

You can see Drivaaar's original post here, and more on the Mosaic project here.

Robots Not Quite So Giant On HD-DVD? PDF Print E-mail

Transformers HD-DVD Last week, the big news was that the Transformers home video release was big news. Especially the high-definition version, which the studios claimed sold 190,000 copies to become the best-selling HD-DVD release yet. However, today Home Media Magazine is disputing that claim, saying their own research and new studio estimates put the actual number near 115,000--meaning the initial estimate missed the mark by about 75,000 copies! They point out this also would mean Blu-Ray outsold HD-DVD overall for that week. On the bright side, they confirm the DVD grabbed the 2007 first-week sales record with 8.3 million copies sold.

Transformers Animated Prowl On CardA new eBay auction has popped up for the upcoming Deluxe-class Prowl from Transformers: Animated, due in stores in early 2008. The images aren't too large, and a sticker on the card proclaims it a pre-production sample with packaging that may vary on release, but it's still the first carded images of an Animated toy we've seen so far. The predominantly red, white, and blue card features the usual character artwork on the front, bio on the back, and cross-sells for Bumblebee, Optimus Prime and Lockdown. Prowl also comes with two "bladed mecha stars" and some kind of traffic light. Presumably, a traffic light of justice.

Check out the listing on eBay, or view mirrored images and discuss in Master Fwiffo's thread. Credit goes to Seibertron for finding the auction.
