Well, it can't always be good news. A little while ago, Transformers: The Movie lost the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects to the Golden Compass. Transformers was something of a favorite in the category, having taken the top prize at the Visual Effects Society award ceremony last week.
On the bright side, the opening montage featured a bunch of iconic movie characters, creatures, and monsters making their way to the Kodak theater for the ceremony, and several of the movie 'bots made an appearance. Hopefully they were turned away at the velvet rope, as Bonecrusher hates losing. Director Michael Bay was also briefly featured in a montage of Academy members casting their ballots for the awards.
*UPDATE* Transformers lost to Bourne Ultimatum in both the Sound Mixing and Sound Editing categories, so it goes home empty-handed. Discussion (and commiseration) continues in Sentinel Prime's thread. |

Thanks to Allspark members Betty Nor and Drifter, we now have some information and images from Wonderfest held this weekend in Japan! Takara Tomy had on display the Trans-scanning Transformers: The Movie figures, Transformers Henkei, Encore Meister (Jazz) and the G1 style Music Convoy. Also popping up at the convention were Shockwave and armored Ultra Magnus Revoltech figures! However they were fan kits made by converting Megatron and unarmored Ultra Magnus. Interestingly enough, while they were fan made kits, they were still made under a Takara Tomy license. Finally, the Roadbuster mold will be seeing a re-issue in the form of a model kit! Although it will not be made by Takara Tomy, so it looks like the final production colors will not match the colors the mold sported in G1.
Click here to check out images and see everything that Betty Nor and Drifter have to say about the convention! |

A new eBay auction gives us another look at the upcoming Transformers Animated Voyager-class Optimus Prime. We've seen the toy on eBay before, and of course at last week's Toy Fair, but this new auction provides us with one of the better shots so far of his vehicle-mode gun/robot-mode battleaxe.
Check out the auction here. |

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films has announced the nominations for its 34th Annual Saturn Awards, and Transformers: The Movie is up for two: Best Science Fiction Film and Best Special Effects. The Academy is a non-profit organization founded in 1972 specifically to honor and promote genre entertainment. Academy members vote to select the award winners, and membership is open to the public... so feel free to drop a few bucks and help stack the deck!
The presentation is a long way off, as it won't be held until June 24 in Universal City, California. While you're waiting, don't forget to root for Transformers in its three categories in those other Academy Awards this Sunday! |
