Happy Birthday, Peter Cullen!

The iconic voice behind the most famous truck around turns 75 today!

Transformers fans need no introduction to Peter Cullen, the original and current voice of Optimus Prime and several other classic characters. Born in Montreal on this day in 1941, the characters he has brought to the screen have been with us for as long as most of us here can remember. Aside from Transformers, his credits include roles on The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Voltron, Winnie the Pooh, Gremlins, Predator, and Knight Rider, to name just a few!

Of course, to us, he’ll always be Optimus Prime first and foremost. Cullen has said that he modeled the voice of Optimus after his older brother, Larry, a returning Vietnam War veteran: “When he came home, I could see a change. He was quieter and he was a man and a hero to me… I watched him and listened to him. I’d never had an opportunity to do a superhero, and when that came, (that voice) just came right out of me and I sounded like Optimus.”

Join us in wishing Peter a happy 75th birthday with our thanks for the years of entertainment, and our best wishes for the future! Roll out!
