Pacific Rim sequel lands John Boyega in lead!

The apocalypse has been uncanceled! The sequel to Pacific Rim is rising from the depths, this time with John Boyega taking the fight to the Kaiju.

If there’s one thing we love almost as much as giant robots here at the Allspark, it’s giant monsters. Naturally, movies paring those two against each other are right up our alley, so any news about a new Pacific Rim film is more than welcome. Story details for the next installment are still scant, but Deadline reports Boyega will take the lead in the much-anticipate sequel, playing the son of Idris Elba’s character Stacker Pentecost from the first film. Frankly, we couldn’t imagine a better fit!

Legendary Pictures has set Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega for the lead role for the second installment of its Pacific Rim franchise. Steven S. DeKnight is directing the film, which will begin production in the fourth quarter of this year, based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham. Boyega will play the son of the character played by Idris Elba in the del Toro-directed original film.
