Production kicks off on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Marvel Studios announced this morning that principle photography has begun on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, due out next summer! They’ve also made a few new casting announcements…

As revealed in a news post on Marvel’s website, most of principle cast will be returning for the sequel, due in theatres May 5th, 2017. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn are all slated to reprise their roles from the first film. The Guardians will be joined by Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and Kurt Russell in yet to be announced roles.

Director James Gunn has previously stated his intention to explore the mystery of Star-Lord’s unearthly paternity in this sequel, leading fans to speculate that Kurt Russell will be filling that particular role. The banner image Marvel revealed also suggests we’re going to see more of Baby Groot, which make sense; trees grow pretty slowly, after all.
