Spider-Man, Spider-Man… Tom Holland does Whatever a Spider Can

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Marvel and Sony have found their new Spider-Man in British actor Tom Holland.

The 19 year old actor, with only a short list of credits to his name, beat out Asa Butterfield and a handful of other hopefuls to land the role previously played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Holland will suit up as Spidey for both Marvel and Sony, starting with Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War next year.

Despite rumors that Marvel would be looking to cast an actor as Miles Morales for their new on-screen Spidey, the films will again feature Peter Parker as the wisecracking wallcrawler.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

The decision comes after stealth test-screening in Atlanta May 30 which saw Holland, who appeared as one of Naomi Watts’ sons in the acclaimed tsunami drama The Impossible, and Asa Butterfield, the child star from Hugo and Ender’s Game, test along with Judah Lewis (a relative newbie who will be seen in the Jean Marc-Vallee’s fall drama Demolition), Matthew Lintz (who will be seen with Adam Sandler in this summer’s Pixels), Charlie Plummer (who had a recurring gig on Boardwalk Empire), and Charlie Rowe (a British actor who appeared on Fox’s short-lived Red Band Society).
